G'day,

On a particular river, I park my car, I walk about a Km and fish the entire way down. Ive notice that everyone who walks back towards the bridge to their cars say they've landed 8 and lost 12-15 plus ( it ranges) I know we dont like to give away our hotspots but I wouldnt mind having a day like that sometime.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Saucy

Tell us about your setup... when do you usually show up? How are you fishing for the steelhead? Bait? If you're showing up and they're leaving... ya, you might be showing up a bit late. First light fishing tends to be best.

Don't believe everything you hear on the river either.

Fisherman's lies :)

As DOZER told you you have to be on the river with your rod in hand and ready before first daylight. Usually i will go on river half an hour before daylight and wait in dark drink my coffee and smoke my cigarette enjoying the sound of morning and the river. :) as soon i can see float on the river i will start fishing ( i don,t like using those glow sticks on my float unless i go pike fishing)

You catch 2 fish and you take four pictures of each and post!

 This made me laugh, 2 fish... 2 sides... 2 fish x 2 sides = 4 fish sides, which equals 4 different fish:lol:

Also, a couple of pictures of the same fish wouldn't hurt... I mean, how many of us actually count the dots to check it's the exact same fish anyways?!?!?!

I even take hook out and change different baits after roe bag i put different flies and naturally " pink worm"

If they have been getting 10-20 fish, then it has been an active day and should have been able to land some. As others have said, don't believe everything they say. Men'g ego seems to make them embarrassed if they said they caught nothing or a few small ones. Seen it over and over!

you need to tell us details which dozer listed.

and what everyone else says. To have an 8/25 day.... first of all, if you are landing 8 fish a day, you know exactly what you are doing and you dont lose 10-15. Also, these kind of numbers only truly come up on opener weekend IMHO.

The cable guy was just at my house. He saw some of my pics on the wall and asked where I got them. He then proceeded to tell me the other day he and a buddy hooked into 40+ fish on a huron trib. I replied "Yah right", he then pulled out his phone and said take a look. Fish after fish as I scrolled, looking at the date and time. You could see the times on the screen when he took the picture. As the pics went on the times got further apart. Guess what im saying is make sure your there early to A) get that desired pool and B)to be there while the feed is on.

There are days on the river where just about everyone will get a fish or two and someone who is at the right spot may get a large number of hook ups. The right bait with the right presentation at the right time.

this is everything, back in the spring, had a group of 7 guys, all fishing the same pool, i myself had 9 hookups, the other guys had around 12 or so, you do the math, thats 70 hook ups from the same pool..........

The guys might be full of crap. If you've noticed what other guys have stepup wise then try that. If not I'm sure we'll get you set up with something good .

Hey Guys,

I'm overwhelmed with the responses. I appreciate it. I have been using this site on my iPhone and it hasn’t allowed me to log on so Sorry for the late response.

Here is my set up starting from the Hook

#10 Hook

14"-18" 6lb fluorocarbon leader

8lb trilene XT

9oz Float (Red)

Split Shots - Generally I locate 2 directly under the float to stabilize the balance
- Than I will stagger shots in groups of 2 down the line leaving the last 2 just before my leader. Totaling about 6-8 shots (depending on my depth) not including the 2 just below the float

Rod - 10'6" SST Okuma Float Rod

Reel - I’m just using a spinning reel at the moment

Bait - Beads

Again, Thanks for the responces. Some good ones out there. Both funny and imformal.

Keen to hit the river asap. Hard to beat.

Hear from ya's soon

sounds like you have a good idea what is going on. If you are looking for things to change to try... try a bit longer leader. I am for 2 feet. And I get shot right to about a foot of my presentation. dont be afraid to put shot on the leader. You can try a smaller hook. I use 12s on murky and 14s on clear days. 10 isn't anything out of line though.

another thing that caught my eye... i only group my shot after the float. Like you said. 2 shots. then i never have 2 together. Spaced out ever 8-10inches give or take depending on depth and run speed. Try spreading them out.

the last thing is your presentation. just beads? Switch it up. you never know what they are after. bags, different color bags, single eggs, beads, worms grubs pinkies flies you name it. Also the striking zone, dont be afraid to be sliding your float up until you find bottom.

hope this helps, a few things to try out anyways.

cheers man good luck

part of the problem could be that you are fishing water that has been thouroughly pounded by several decent steelheaders. that will not be to your advantage. it is possible to come behind them and get a few, but sounds like a lot of them have been stung.
