Any suggestions on a Spinning Rod for Steelhead , looking for something around 7'6-8 ft and can throw 1/8-3/4oz lures. Any feed back would be appreciated. Would like to try and keep the price under 150.00 for the rod. Do not want anything to "long" the areas i fish are rather confined but can accomadate a rod in the area of 7-8 1/2 feet.

thank you for your time and feedback.

Shimano clarus is your best bet, 7'6 medium light is a 4-12lb 1/16-5/8... 7'6 6-12lb 3/16-5/8
You can also get the 8'6 steelhead versions which are 8-17lb 3/8-1ounce

At around $109.99 for the steelhead blacks and 89 for the spinning rod.

Matt

I have the 8' 6" Clarus and it has enough muscle for sure. I picked it up last year and have landed some seriously large Carp with it...so have no doubt it will do well for Steelies/Salmon.

Bug Slinger,

I have not tried TFO spinning rods, but I own two TFO casting/trigger rods and love them. One is 8'6 M/F drift rod and rated for 3/8 - 3/4 oz... I love the blank on it. Lots of backbone at the butt, plenty of taper at the first quarter of the tip. Not too whippy, not too stiff. Just right. It is a pleasure to fish with, especially when fighting bigger steelies.

Check the Okuma Celilo line. it's around $69 - $89 and the longest I believe is 9" (one i use for casting as well). Handled me my PB pike, musky, salmon.

Thank you for the input, I currently use there fly rods and love them ( have two a 3 weight and 6 weight ). But as my good friend Andrew ( Bow Man ) has said finding there spinning rods in our area is difficult. The shop where I purchased my fly rods said the could order them but I would like to " hold " one in my hand before ordering. Where about did you pick yours up?

thanks again for the feedback cptpronin, I appreciate it.

Hey" Bow" I will call you Friday to make arrangements for the weekend, looking forward to it. If you drive I will bring the "goodies".

Bug Slinger you may also want to take a look at some Fenwick rods, In the price range you are looking for and are very sensitive and have great backbone.

Bow Man, Bug Slinger

I ordered mine online through BPS. Unfortunately I was not able to find it in stock either... When it arrived it exceeded my expectations. Very happy. The only thing I could suggest is call the store in Vaughn Mills and ask them if they have it.

Assuming you gents are in the Hamilton area, you could also call ahead to Peters Tackle in St. Kitts and ask them what they have for spinning/drift rods. They are well equipped.

I agree with Bow Man, Fenwick rods have a huge following for their steelhead/drift rods on both sides of the rockies.

I will try Peters Tackle, to be honest i forgot about that shop! Also will call BPS see if they have them in stock.

cheers.

I agree with the comments above, fenwick are great rods and you can't go wrong with the value. If you are willing to spend a little bit more, I'd suggest the St. croix wild river series. There are many different lengths and actions depending on your preference.
