Well, here it is, my first report on several outings to one particular spot that has been quite hot since spring. With the amount of work I have been doing this summer, I have not been able to get out as much as I would like. And unfortunately due to the lack of rain, many of my fishing spots in the Grey/Bruce have extremelly low water levels. Fishing for trout is extremelly difficult in such conditions so lets hope that we get a couple days of consistent rain!

This spring I decided to fish a local stream that is known for its big browns. I caught a couple small size browns, but while exploring I found myself running into some walleyes. It is interesting because I would never have thought that walleyes would exist in such an environment.

At the beginning of summer I pulled in a nice walleye, and the scale read 4.5 pounds on this one (the third pic). Not sure if the picture does justice. I have another picture but it has the background in it. I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips regarding a program that would remove backgrounds. This fish was kept, and tasted amazing deep fried with fish crisp!

A week ago I went back a couple days after the most recent storm we had and nailed 3 more walleyes. Two of them were about 3 or 3.5 pounds and the other maybe a pound. The water was extremelly murky, but the fish seemed to like the 1/4 oz jigs rigged with dew worms. These fish were quickly released after a picture was taken. All fish were caught on an ultra light setup.

Anyways, tight lines folks!

Fantastic report, Dewy.... that is so great you encountered a fish you were not expecting to bump into and then to repeat your success... love it when a plan comes together!

God bless Ultralights!

I think the river has some deeper pools (about 10 to 15 feet deep) in spots. That is where I have been catching the majority of these walleyes. But for the majority of the river, it is about 3 or 4 feet deep. What surprises me is that I have caught walleye in shallow waters, maybe 4 feet deep. This is my first summer targeting this species specifically, because I target rainbows, browns and brook trout specifically. As for the UL setup, there is nothing better. I have a bunch of heavier rods, but it seems that I always grab the trusty UL. On a side note, I have to thank all those people who have been taking photos of their catches. The pictures are awsome and have helped me with my photography skills.
