Im not sure about that area or about this time of year but last year in July or August I went to the pinery in grand bend and had a great day of shore fishing on the beach there. Caught a bunch of big channel cats and the biggest drum I have ever caught too. I just used a pickeral rig with two big egg sinkers on the bottom, rigged up some worms on there and bombed my casts wayyyyy out there. I made the line real tight which kept the bait slightly off the bottom and set the rod on a stand.....then you just have to sit back on your chair and wait for the rod to start throbbing.
Depending on the area this technique can work for channel cats, drum, silver bass/perch, yellow perch and maybe even some trout if you are near a trib and get lucky.
