So I was trolling a local trib where I usually hook into smallies and pike when suddenly something takes the bait and goes WHAM!!!

Pulling on it like a mac truck. I thought it was a 30 inch pike. But when it got closer I saw the flashes of gold and said noooo wwwaaaayyyy... Walleye???!!!

Not even that big but it took my rod up and down and side to side. And he made me nervous when he was trying to get away from my net. Only netted it on the third attempt.

This is only the second one I've ever caught. Two years ago on the same stretch is where I caught another surprise. My first and only sheepie.

Also attached a pic of my first 'eye from 5 years ago, which was from shore near one of the locks on the Trent Severn.

thanks guys. ya i love surprises on the river. i've also seen a gar pike in a local trib while on a foot bridge. one day i hope to get one of those and a bowfin. since you can find those around TO islands i don't see why you can't find the odd one in a trib.

i trolled the grand once because it feels so good when something finally hooks up and you can't wait to see what it is. bass, pike, walleye, or sheepie. but alas i got skunked while trolling and had to settle for a nice carp on corn afterwards.

also recently trolled the erie canal for 3 hours with two lines and got nothing but smallie that came off. there you also have a chance of tiger musky. but i was ill prepared as i didn't intend to fish the canal that day and only had shallow divers when the erie canal is actually 15 feet deep and real murky.

it was a fun catch for sure. read that they just put like 50,000 walleye fingerlings in hamilton harbour. hope in a few years we will be catching them more often around here.
