This mute swan was rescued yesterday at Bluffer's Park. He had a fish hook stuck in his beak and fishing line wrapped around his body. He is now a patient at Toronto Wildlife Centre where he is being treated for his wounds. You can contribute towards his care at www.torontowildlifecentre.com/donate.

Please spread the word -- fishing line is dangerous! ALWAYS dispose of fishing line and fish hooks responsibly, and if you see any on the ground or tangled in the reeds, pick it up. It can be deadly.

I know im going to get some hate for this but these are the facts. Yes, I feel bad for the bird because it is suffering but to send it to a wildlife centre to rehabilitate it is ridiculous. These are an invasive species which have a negative impact on our native waterfowl species. This thing should have been put out of its misery by a technician on site. Seems ridiculous to me. I suggest anyone who is contemplating donating money take the time first and research the impacts of the species in not only Ontario but Canada as a whole. Just because they are a nice looking bird in many peoples eyes doesn't mean they should be around. To put it in terms of a fishing perspective this species can be related to the 4 Asian Carp species (albeit a less devastating species) that are very close to entering the Great Lakes. I know many who would love to see a cull on this species in Ontario with me being one of them. I don't mean to upset or offend any by these comments just simply hoping that everyone knows the background of this species before donating. I personally hope that this animal is not released back into the wild after it recovers because that goes against the ideals of the OMNRF and their starategy for Invasive Species.

those things are like a flying carp. uproots aquatic vegetation and are very aggressive (towards humans and other waterfowl).

But people want them here cause they were given to Canada by the queen of England, and they are pretty.

Non-native species aside, an animal in stress should be helped and fishermen can be pigs... wouldn't surprise me if there was a roe bag on the end of that hook...

I've been chased by swans more than once at Bluffs. Those birds are not to be f**ked with.

Couldn't agree more. An NN species is still a living animal.
