Can that pen withstand the pressure of the fish pulling against it?
Can you remove all the random stuff inside it?
Can you securely attach hooks to it?
Have you tested the action of the pen in water, while being dragged by a line?

If you answered yes to all of them, I dont see why not.
btw whats wrong with the color as it is? seems like a good color to me.

i dont know how to attach hooks. do u have any ideas? I can remove everything inside, my dad did it to change the pen part as it was dead. it's pretty sturdy so i think it can take a fish's tug. the action is great in the water, but after a while it floats. is there a way i can make it sink?

thanks

p.s i was referring to a paint* job, the paint is chipping off. i was thinking of changing colours, but i was thinking also to give it a new coat of paint.

hmm to attach the hooks try drilling a hole in trough the middle and put a split ring then put the hooks on that, I like those pens they look pretty cool

I wouldn't add rocks, get some bb pellets and put those in, you'll have a rattle. You could always leave one hole unplugged and it will fill up with water...

Thinking that adding epoxy, rocks BB's or anything of the sort is going to be tricky as if the weight is not distributed pretty close to perfect it will not swim right. Same goes for drilling the holes for the hooks and such.

Trust me I have a number of flies I have tied that swim on their side, back, nose first, tail first and all combination of mentioned.

Put some weight on the nose, and attach an assist hook on the nose as well, then use it for vertical jigging.
I doubt you can securely fasten any hooks on the tail/belly of that thing for a casting lure.
