I have a question for those who fish tandem rigs from time to time. I am curious what the best way to tie them is. I have thought of three options:

1. Tie the second leader to the base of the hook.
2. Tie the second leader the eye of the first hook so there are two lines tied to the eye of the top hook
3. Just use a double size leader and snell the top hook in and tie the bottom hook to the end of the line

Any help is appreciated, rigging up in a few hours!

I tie the line directly to the first hook, in the bend, when I use a tandem set. I use an improved cinch knot and tie the loop in my hand and then cast it on the hook and tighten. I use approx 4" leader between hooks and the line is approx 1/2 the test of my leader

4" between hooks eh, thats a tight tandem.

You have found that setup to work well and not break off too much? I tied my first tandem like that and broke off my first fish on the tandem. Haven't tried the tandem since.

put a small piece of tubing on the swivel and then put it on the hook, it won't slide or fall off. kind of like stringer hooks or trailers.
if you tie it to the loop of first hook it might get wrapped around the first bait.

The second hook up from the bottom you could use a palomar knot if you want the hook to stick out or use a egg loop knot if you want to line up the hook with the line.
