after getting skunked for perch yesterday drove on the ice from vb, too windy to do crap, decided to hit gilford today because didn't have much time today to fish so decided to stay close. Left the house at 5, was driving on the ice at 5:20, got a few dinks, lost a pike, lost a few jumbos, got a few fat herring and then found out we have time to fish today as much as we want, so at noon we packed it up and headed straight for Joe. Was there by 2, first fish not the ice in 15 minutes, 2nd followed in 10 minutes, started out beautifully. I kept 1, my dad kept 2, i knew that the big ones would start hitting before dark so didn't want to fill up my limit with small guys, so caught and released over 15 lakers, some being nice size too. Lost a ling and whitie and then it started........ As i was reeling up my micro jig, bam pull and line peeling, got him to the hole and lost the dang thing right at the hole, stupid frozen hole, lol. Then i switched to a batboy, same thing, reeling up hit line screaming, almost spooled me 2 times loose him 15' from the hole, was reeling him in slow on 4 lb test, nothing wrong, didn't make a run up, just reeling him up then no weight, WTF lol. Switched to a fly reel for the slow retrieve so the fish could swallow the jig in better, same thing lost him 10-15' from the hole, crap not a gain. Then when it was 1 hour before dark i wanted to just catch one more to get my limit but no, small guys stop biting, got another big one to bit in the dark but my dog decided to walk around me and tangle my line, would've had that fish too, oh well, learned my lesson, not p;aging this game anymore, haha.
