Tippet length

What lenght of tippet do most of you use please be specific on the application, I was wondering what i should use on a 8 foot 5 weight glass rod with a leader lenght of 7.5 feet. I was thinking 18-20 inches what do you all think?

So what you are suggesting is that if i use a 7.5 ft leader, only use 6 inches of tippet? Is this correct. Or could i get away with out using any tippet on this setup?

6-12 inches would be rule of thumb there, some nymphing techniques use 11ft leaders, where some spey applications use really short leaders. the problem is, if you go too long, the fly drags in the water and leader/tippet will act like a hinge and not give you a proper roll cast

Glass rod, long leader. Trust me you will have a much more enjoyable time on the water. I like 8' leaders and 12 inch tippet on my 7 foot and well I had my 6'2 I threw 8 foot all in (these are all rough measurements).

as long as you can get it to turnover longer is better imo.

Usually rule is tippet as long as the rod. But also depends on what species your fishing if they spook easy like trout.

Really a 8 foot long tippet??? Are you sure you don't mean the leader? Because that would make it a 8 foot leader and 8 feet of tippet??? 16 feet ??? Does not sound right to me.

Lol my bad. Confused. Tired. Lol. Leader as long as your rod. Tippet usually 3-4 inches. But if you use a tapered leader you won't need a leader.
