Was up at the cottage. Hit two spots. A local lake known for dinks and a big harbour.
Day 1.
My friend came with me for his first time ever fishing off shore. Actually his second time ever fishing. First time was over 10 years ago at Profs Lake in Brampton for sunnies.
I got to the lily pads and was giving him a reminder on how to cast. My first cast in the pads yielded one of the fish in the pics. He got the hang of it but often botched it. lol.
Anyway, in the 3 hours I caught 4. He had 3 hooked but lost them in the pads when they kept snagging his hook in the roots and then getting off. He doesn't have the experience on how to pull them out of there yet.
But during the 5 minute troll back to the launch he hooked into one and finally landed it.
Day 2.
My gf came along. On her second cast she landed this LMB that looks like a fat crappie, doesn't it? She had another couple hooked but they broke off in the pads.
My friend fished only briefly. He was more interested in sleeping.
Then I found some pads and hooked into a nice LMB which gave me a hell of a time in the lillies. That woke my friend up.
Trolling back to the launch with a chartreuse jerk bait I was hoping we could hook a pike but this nice largie hit it. My friend did well to reel it in. Kept the rod tip up and took about 20 seconds as that bait was way way back there.
He's not hooked on fishing now but he'll join me one more time this summer on a local trib trolling and casting for smallies and pike.
