Kearney and Tangledline misadventures :D
we began at centre island at 9:30 am
Swan pond 9:30am to 12pm
tangledline scares away a bowfin and a pike (15inch) and a bass with furiousus worm on a hook....
its awesome the fish are visible...its pretty sad that tangledlines's game is off....
kearney is getting frustrated that tangledline is locating fish and driving them away
tangledline catches a catfish on a hook and worm...were in the game.....
tangledline catches another catfish on a hook and worm...this was a big battle through sticks and a big white shopping bag...not an easy land....thanks kearney for your help.... :) View attachment 7053
tangledline spots bowfin...hooks the beast and the battle ensues....thanks kearney for your help landing and subduing the very upset bowfin....the pics do not show us holding it as it was very upset...realised they are nesting now and it was really pissed off... View attachment 7052
tangledline catches a 2.75 pound bass "sorry out of season"...the worms just looked too good....
its 12 pm we move to the canals by the school to launch our new boat "bowfin"
yes it was perfect that a bowfin was caught today ....
while tangledline is putting together the boat kearney is fishing...
kearney is playing with the mating carps whizzing back and forth in groups then bang
a cruising bass hammers his line...good fight ...gentle and quick release...sorry mister bass...sorry no pics "out of season"
the boat is ready and we launch her in style with a "fatty"
tangledline is now no longer a sea able sailor but we lauch and under kearney's guidence
we paddle the canals...tangledline is in rough shape and lying flat on his back paddling while kearney navigates with all the gear in his lap....
we can't move our limbs the boat is overloaded for space but 280 pounds under capacity.
kearney is constantly pointing out the large carp that follow or swim under us..
tangledline is nervous of the pike, bowfin, snapping turtles
we checkout forestry island...
we checkout the bay surrounding donut island
red ants ouch ouch ouch...
we checkout donut island...its got a hole in the middle filled with water...
kearney sees carp...
kearney gets a fish on...a huge bass... :D
kearney lands it and quickly and gently as possible releases it
tangledline is exploring the shoreline and catches another big bass..its an ugly battle..sorry
the bass is scarred for life and so is tangledline
enough tbothering bass so we move on..
oops is that the police boat right in front of us...they don't see us were too small
do we have everything??? yep we will be ok if were pulled over..
kearney wants tangledline to blow past them and smoke them with our wake...but tangledline can't paddle fast enough to make wake so they are spared..
kearney wants to go to the channel off hanlan's pt to check out a hidden pond...
its pretty cool...very shallow..pike spawning grounds...carp are here now spawning in large numbers..we leave to go check out the island near the filtration plant...
then its to trout pond....we dock and unload and pack
we try some spots on trout pond ..nothing
we head out to hanlan's point canal to fish for the dreaded pike...we had several follows here last week...today the wind picked up...
waves...tubiddity...lots of boats in the wrong places...lots of boat traffic...
oh by the way the boat traffic was difficult to navigate in our boat earlier...
kearney and tangledline are getting tired and frustrated...we have fished everywhere except the docks at blockhouse bay...we are fishing the docks for a half hour then it happens...
tangledline is out on the wonky dock that wobbles back and forth...
pike on...and its a fighter
kearney is at the far end and running towards tangledline with net...
tangledline fights the pike to the dock area but has to get to the secure dock to land fish...
the wonky dock is wobbling back and forth as tangledline is retreating down the narrow dock while fighting the pike...half way there the pike zooms at full speed underneath the very dock tangledline is struggling down...tangledline does not need this to play out this way so he pulls the pike back to infront of him and staggers to the end of the wobbly dock...
kearney presents the net the pike is in the pike is landed ...kearhey has the net at shoulder height and the pike jumps for all its worth and its in the lake again...
we both scramble to regain control of the situation...the pike is securely hooked...too bad ...the pike will have to have his picture taken with tangledline after all...ahhhh :D View attachment 7054
pike is released to play with another day...
kearney and tangledline fish the remaining area until the ferry comes....
exhausted, hungry abut so happy ...another day at the islands

row row row your boat~
i would like to see a picture of you tow in your 'bowfin' cruiser.

what's with the belly of that bowfin? all greenish~

Are you guys gonna fish the island @ bass season open?
i may join in to learn your island secrets.

the bowfin is nesting or mating thus the colour that it exhibits to attract another...
ain't she a beaut....

notice the added weight (wire wrapped) around the first treble hook....
this helps the lure sink head first as well as slightly suspend head down...
makes your bait seem unaware of the upcoming carnage

awesome report!
I'm loving the beautiful breeding colours on the male bowfin.... definitely something you don't see everyday. neon green fish.
glad you guys made it back okay.

so did you have a battery operated air pump?

Really enjoying your Island reports guys! Sweet pike too! I'm on vacation starting next thursday I'll prob be hitting the islands daily during the week hopefully I will see you there.

Ohh yes, what an outting...very funny to see I imagine. I am 6 foot 4 and the boat was 5.9...LOL!! Sturdy little craft, great work Tangledline with the rowing...there was no fishing from this boat...if you can call it that. But she got us to places we could never go before, and will get us there again. Tangledline had a great day out there...he was on his game. And we will be there bass opener, and alotta days there after, it`s my second home. Tangledline is out there now and the phone hasn`t stopped ringing, LOL!! I would love to see him land a pike bu=y himself, now that would be priceless, my face is agrin from ear to ear. Looking forward to some more island fishing.

p.s. I have caught some oos bass...and there is nothing under 3.5lbs yet, so once we start to look for em, it`s gonna be ugly.

p.s.s I did not target these bass, they just hit hard from the deep sometimes.(but i will take it)
