So im still a beginner in terms of fishing, but thought i'd contribute, and maybe get some feedback from you guys as well.

So I left North York nice and early at 5:20am, and took the first ferry to Wards Island. My friend and I started walking west towards centre island checking out some spots on the way. First real spot we stopped at for a long time was on the bridge at Snake Island and in that vicinity. I saw a couple fish, a huge carp, a catfish and another species I couldnt identify. Had no bites, and we tried an assortment of lures. I personally used mostly crankbaits, the red/white daredevil spoon, and a mepps spinner. My friend tried his crankbaits and top water frog... but unfortunately we had no bites. I feel the fish were really disinterested and wouldnt even look at a lure when it was right in front of them. We tried hooks with corn when we saw that monster carp, but as soon as we put it in the water, the tiny fish just kept pecking away at it.

Anyways, we continued west and tried a bunch of spots, and fished mainly on the island with the amusement park. Once again, we saw some huge carp, but no other species. Unfortunately the carp were uninterested, and we got no action.

So in all, we fished from about 6:30am to noon, and had no luck whatsoever. We ran into another person fishing and he said he had no luck as well. He said he saw some pike, but they werent very active.

Weather was pretty good, overcast and with a bit of wind. Great day to be outside cause the sun wouldnt destroy you.

Does anybody have any tips? Im still a beginner and reading up as much as I can, but cant seem to get any real hits. Always see fish, but they dont seem interested at all in biting. Is there anything we were doing wrong at the islands?

Also, when fishing for carp using corn, any tips? I was using 2 pieces of corn on a hook, and attached it to a bobber. And let it hit the ground... What can I do to prevent the smaller fish from pecking away at the corn?

Thanks for any tips or advice!

PS. You'll be happy to hear that there were no signs up at the Toronto Islands about no fishing. I was really nervous that the signs may have been put up, but there was nothing of the sort. Good luck to everyone!

i live in Scarborough and not too familiar with the centre island and how to get to snake island for fishing, was wonder if you can provide me with directions
thanks

Well if your in Scarborough, the Ferry's are located here:

https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&q=Center+Island+ferry&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=Center+Island+ferry&hnear=0x89d4cb90d7c63ba5:0x323555502ab4c477,Toronto,+ON&cid=0,0,7958114327647514313&ei=rv_yT-q0Eabj0QG8_5XhCQ&ved=0CIoBEPwSMAA&oi=local_group

Also take the Ward island ferry, walk down Cibola Ave, When you see Pontiac Ave, its just up a head to the right you'll see a bridge, that takes you to Snake Island.

if the queue for the ferry is really long then try one of the water taxi services along the waterfront.

costs a little more but smaller queue's and a much quicker trip.
