Hey OFF! So I have been getting a lot of emails regarding how to get started on fishing tournaments and how to get sponsors. First and foremost I just want to say I am not a big shot or anything like that. I am humble and I just love to fish! Fishing tournaments is a great experience and I do it because I get to meet some amazing people and it is just part of my competitive nature. I may rub off on some people the wrong way but I promise I always mean well. As for getting started in fishing a tournament, I recommend looking at a club based event. There are clubs all over the place that allow people without a boat to get out there and fish tournaments. As a member of the CBAF, I have had the priviledge of fishing tournaments with all sorts of great anglers on different lakes. I like being a member because each tournament is based off a draw, you sign up as a boater or a non and your name will be drawn with a person prior to the event. I think being a non is great because it allows you to see different styles of fishing and how people will approach their day and 2 it allows you to see new water! As for sponsors, the way I got started was getting on nationalprostaff.com, making an account and just build a profile! Now trust me, me talking about all this goes back to me rubbing off on people the wrong way, I am just passing on some knowledge because these are questions I get asked a lot. I will say, up in Canada, sponsorships are very competitive. I suggest while attempting to get sponsors, you try to make your profile a little bit different. Get involved in different fundraisers, charity events and tournaments and just try to market yourself.

nps gets a very bad rap round here for exploiting rivers for the purpose of trying to get a sponsor, ie a certain east creek that gets a ton of mention on that site.

i would also say that looking for a sponser is like applying for a job, by yourself, be honest, be sincere.

as for tournments, everywhere has boat rentals for $100 go and enjoy the day, enter the tourny, if you do well, fantastic, if not, you enjoyed a great day on the water, people will cringe at the boat rental for $100, but tbh, you'd spend that in gas for your 200hp boat

Even though I have my own boat, I still enjoy getting out on a tin boat and trying out a new lake, it leaves the hastle of trailering yours and you can get out and just fish with no electronics. It is all about instincts and just pulling up to a spot and feeling it! As for NPS I truly do not know history, I just wanted to share my experience. In terms of sponsors you are 100 percent correct about it being like a job application!
