I'm gonna be in Frankfort. ( Excuse my spelling if I'm wrong.) North of Trenton on the Trent River or Canal. Later this week. Can anyone tell me if there is a steelhead run there? What else might I expect to fish for in the area? I know years ago I caught Channel Cats there, but that was in May. I will be there for a few days so any help will be much apprieciated, anyone out that way who wants to wet a line, I'd be happy to meet you.

Alfie. Think we will be leaving Hamilton Thurs. morning.

Lock #1 is on north end of Trenton, I don't ever recall seeing a fish ladder or even heard of one. So I don't see how steelhead could or would even be able go up the Trent. None of the locals ever told me, but I never asked about steelies on the Trent. When I'm out that way or north I have notice lots of people choose to fish on lock #4 or 5 and leave the other locks alone, they are south of Frankford . If you like carp, mud cats go between lock #1 and 2, lock 3 and 4, if memory serves me correct. Some of the other locks are muddy. I and some other anglers I've come accross have not had much luck out there. Usually I stay at the river mouth for bass (daytime), walleye (night). Channel cats used to be huge 15 years ago, the odd one is still around but not as common.

Timing is key for west Bay of Quinte, bite times have been for me short. But I have started fishing in May for mudcats and never fished past Oct. This is where I usually stay overnight during the summers and sleep in my car.

Hope this helps.

The motel we have stayed at in the past is just north of the 401 and there is a lock across the road, also just north of the 401. Not sure what number lock it would be. I don't think it's too far from the river mouth. No chrome is Ok I guess, I just want to get my line wet and perhaps something will be hitting. Most of my fishing would be in the evening since I will be working all day unless it rains. Bass, 'eyes, musky and cats all sound good to me. Any other tips would be great. Thanks.

Alfie

Just to let you guys know, we ended up staying in Campbellford. The Trent was actually in the backyard of our motel. Managed a 4 lb pike and 2 walleye, one about 4 or 5 lbs in our 2 nights there and also a couple of perch who attacked lures almost as big as they were :)

Alfie.
