I headed out yesterday to a Lake Ontario Trib with one of my buddies who had only fished a couple times but only for Panfish and Chubs. He came over to my place and told him we were gonna hit the river, he didn't seem too exited as he thought we were fishing for Chub again but I assured him these fish would be a little bigger. Upon arriving I had planned on catching a few suckers before I started to target some Chrome so I put a size 6 hook on with a single corn niblet and began to fish, I proceeded downstream in search of Suckers while my friend remained upstream targetting some other suckers he had spotted. After a short walk and no sightings of Suckers, I spotted a lonely bow in a slow current area, I didn't want to go back upstream to switch up my lure so I thought I'll cast the corn a couple times just for jokes and hey what's the worst thing that could happen. After about two casts of it not caring it swam up and chomped on my tiny little piece of corn. She was not giving up and swam into very risky areas and I was surprised she didn't break off, my friend was upstream and I had no one to help me land it and the net was with him too. I needed some assistance or else I wouldn't have gotten this fish in, so I looked around noticed a nice bush and secured my rod into it making sure it wouldn't get out, at that moment I turned into a marathon runner and sprinted as fast as I could upstream to get my friend and the net. I made it back with the rod still there anmd landed the fish... PHEW!

Unhooked him, snapped a quick pic, and off he went.

After that I decided to move back upstream to start targetting some Steelies, as I was tying my spinner on my friend yell out I got one, and a fight ensued, this fish sent him running this way and that under trees around rocks through brush and it showed no signs of letting up and everytime we got it close to shore is bolted out again, after about 10 minutes we finally had him in. The hook was in good so it took a bit to get it out but once it was freed we snapped a couple quick pics and off he went, he took a little bit to recover after the long fight but soon after he was swimming freely. He was caught on a small spinner.

After that I began casting my spinner in another area and after a couple casts got a strong hit, but sadly didn't set the hook.

The fishing continued for another half hour before my friend got another bite, he set the hook and we were able to determine that it was the same fish he had caught previosly, we didn't want to drain it of any more energy so I told him to get it in as quick as possible and he did just that he got it in after about 10 second and I unhooked it as fast as I could and released him. After that we fished for another 15 minutes before we decided to pack it in.

Another great day!

(The pics were edited in MS Paint so that lurkers wouldn't be able to determine the spot)

sweet.

but wait.

I am completely confused on how you left you rod just chilling in a bush, with a decent sized steelhead ON YOUR LINE, and for what I can assume would have been atleast a full minute or two, ran to where ever your buddy was, out of earshot... you both ran back down and then he helped you land it. You rod and fish was still there? LOL what?!

I had it secured pretty good and he was only about a 30 second sprint away so it wasn't too long. When I got back the rod was shaking but it wouldn't have come loose lol.

Don't worry, knowing goodentight, I think his comment is meant to be satirical towards the ones that will inevitably follow about the posters fishing practices. Surprised no one said anything yet, but like every other post that contains a photo of a trout or information, it too will be ruined...

Thanks for share, although I don't fish for steelhead, I still enjoy the read! What a great fish story, nice job. :D

great call out there Mr. Noob. Last time I remember us talking we were on the same side, regarding everyone that bashed the kid who posted photos on stringers. I was unaware you turned on me?

G10, let me say sweet again. Sweet! I think our friend here Mr. Noob over looked my optimism and positivity. That is an unreal story, and by no means was I trying to be condescending. I am stoked you have a story that is too good to be true to tell! Which is why I inquired! Stoked on your catches bud

well then let me get this party started!!!

1. your buddy holding the fish, takin all the slime off it which probobly led to an infection which killed or will kill it.
2. ties in with number one, your net probobly took of more slime.
3. size 6 hook is pretty massive!
4. pic one isnt blurred out, I know where that is.
5. never leave your stuff unattended, especially when you have a fish on. at bare minimum get some rubber boots so you can go in some shallow water and can tail the fish.

did i miss anything??? lol im sure we will hear about it.

now that thats done and over with....great job man! some nice fish, congrats!

he said he secured it in the bush: " so I looked around noticed a nice bush and secured my rod into it making sure it wouldn't get out"

GnT noobs post states that you were complimenting G10 and being satirical towards those who would critique his technique broseph
