Hi does any one know what vertical jigging is? I heard it really does work, but tried looking on the net for it, but no real good information , any info will help thanks
Vertical jigging, or just jigging is when you have a jig tied to your line with somekinda imitation or live bait on it, and presenting it in a straight up and down fashion...some jig on the bottome, some jig up in the water colum, depends on what when and where you are fishing for where you fish your jig, but it is useful in boats when you are sitting over hotspots or just drifting along and jigging in the weeds or rock bottoms.
vertical jigging mainly done in winter, rapala jigs, tubes, .... well just do the search on ice fishing.
in soft water season it is more eficient to cast and retrieve cause you cover more water.
Another way to have success vertical jigging is to get yourself a Jigging Spoon. I recommend the XPS Tungsten Jigging Spoon. It is great because it has a lot more weight to it but it is half the size of a conventional Lead Jigging Spoon. Only downfall, tungsten is a bit more expensive.
Great for getting to the bottom in a hurry. It will go straight down like a rock whereas the Lead one will flutter down slowly. Then just jig it straight up and down.
Works great for early and late season smallies, also walleye, can catch Crappie to.
You can also vertical jig a lipless crank like the Rapala Clackin' Rap.
