I was out camping in Port Burwell this weekend for some camping with friends with the hope of getting into a fish or two. Walked the rocks for the first time ever and the water was too warm to get into any perch. There were some schools of silver bass around but all of them were far too small to be kept as pan fish. I was the only one who fished in our group so I didn’t stay too long but when I talked to the other two guys on the rocks on the way back I found out they were getting skunked too. Ill have to come back to the rocks again to get my limit when the water temps are much lower.

On the plus side I managed to dig out an old vintage spincast combo that seemed to be out of commission but it looked like there was some hope. Paid $4 for the combo. I got it back to the campsite and spooled some 8lb mono on it to test it out and was able to get it working! Brought it to my go to lake for testing out new equipment and landed a few nice carp on it. It stood up to some nice long runs but the line was getting chewed up a bit and the drag isn’t quite as strong as the vintage Mitchell I found in my garage but still a good find none the less.

Got this mirror carp and lost another one too.

Those are some nice carp!!

Fish Hawk and Dugger are gonna go gaga over that reel. ;-)

Love the third photo! I don't know if the hook is still in or not! But I swear if the hook is in, boy are you good.

Thanks for the report!

Carp fishing!?

^ Cant see the pic Ninja

Anyone able to identify the reel? The rod is a zebco and is made in China, the reel does not have a brand specified but says it is made in Japan.

Oh and for the guys who are obsessed with the dollar store tackle I caught these on dollar store hooks lol. They worked but I cant say I would ever use them while fishing seriously. 1 cent for a hook or 20 cents isnt a big difference, I even get the raven hooks in the packs of 100 for 10 cents a hook. The dollar store hooks are strong and sharp, what I dont like about them is the thick gauge of metal as they are probably 3x as thick as the ravens or daiichi's.

Just figured I should try them at least once lol.

Lolz, that was quite a thread... None of the dollar stores near me have the individual hooks, just the lures. Got to go dollar store hopping :)

It's gotta be a gold mine waiting for exploration down where you are Noobs

heck, the flea markets alone.....
