I've been trying my luck with walleye in a river with walleye's and quite a few bass nearly every cast one or two small mouth fallow the baits right up to the boat.
I'm trying not to catch them as they're not in season, but what else can I do? I'm using a red and white lipped swim bait, is there anything else I should use?
Thanks!
The fishing here next weekend for Bass opening should be wonderful though!

Usually any kind of jig does the trick with a weighted head. So like this... 3/8 oz. and 3/4 oz. jig heads:

The color of the jig heads is not that important. The color of the rubber or bait you attach makes the difference. In the spring or at night, the walleyes are in shallow water so you would want to use a lighter jig like a 3/8 oz or even smaller. During the day or in the Summer when it's warm and sunny, the Walleyes go deeper so you may want to use a heavier jig like a 1/4 oz.
