I caught what I believe to be my first blue walleye this week. I was fishing a remote northern location, and although it wasn't entirely blue, and thus maybe not a remnant of the actual "blue walleye" population, it was covered in blue from head to tail. No pics unfortunately.

Some walleye porn from last night.

My silver dollar store spoon is not letting me down! These walleye fought well, I thought they were pike. I guess in cooler water, they aren't terrible fighters afterall.

My love affair with spoons continues.

Very nice eyes salmo, what do you do for a living? It seems like you are always all over the province.

Also id steer clear of those gloves in the second pic, they dont look too good for the fish.

That one's filleted and the meat is waiting on ice!

Will be the first fish that I am going to eat in a long time. Hardly kept any this year, I only have a conservation license and I didn't know what the limit is at this spot, so I only kept one.

Great pics. Ha your a frugler too...........lol. The spoons holding up for ya, no issues? Can you take a pic of which spoon they hit on?

Thanks.

Looks like OFF has all of Team Dollarama..............lol. I got to get ahold of their head office and convince them to sponsor us and give us new lures to test for free..........lol. ;)

Thanks Salmo.

Even at full cost, we're still getting them cheaper than a sponsored angler would probably get lures from their sponsors for!

Love quality gear from dollar stores, or at dollar store prices!

I was just in the US and I didn't have much time to look for fishing gear, but what I did see was pretty cheap compared to Canadian prices.

Team Frugler got the tin medal at the Olympics!!!! :D

I guess it's time we approached Dollarama to sponsor a $25 gift certificate each month for best fish/fish story involving a Dollarama lure :)

The tin metal is cheap plastic under it so it's only plated.........lol.

I think we got to start a tourney with only Dollarama lures. Everyone start practicing, we'll do a nearby lake. Look for the big banner "Frugler's Bass Tournament 2012", "Grand Prize $3 Second $2 Third place $1".........lol.

Lolz, If only they had some soft plastics...

blue pickeral only exist in Lake Erie, if you were fishing any other body of water, you didn't catch a blue pickeral...nice one anyway...

ah the blue pickerel topic....

1) ok, so, yes, historically there existed in Lake Erie and Lake Ontario the BLUE PICKEREL (in Ontario) or BLUE WALLEYE (on the US side)... same fish. Apparently it was a distinct sub species of the Walleye family.

This fish is now EXTINCT.

2) in many lakes in Ontario, particularly Canadian Shield lakes, there exists today Walleye that have a BLUE COLOUR.... these fish are not the extinct BLUE PICKEREL/WALLEYE.... they are a colour morpth of the YELLOW WALLEYE

so, yes, Salmo's Walleye was blue, a cool colour morpth of the regular Walleye. Some can be grey looking. There is a debate on why the colour difference... diet, genes, water acidity ....

the last true BLUE PICKEREL/WALLEYE caught in Ontario was in Lake Erie in 1965. It was declared extinct in 1985.

for a hoot, I have attached a pic of a blue coloured Walleye I caught this summer in my river. Some are more blue than others. The first pic is a "regular" coloured Walleye caught the same night.

cheers!
