whenever i go to lake wilcox there are allways dead fish lining the shore. i never take a good enough look to find out what they are. so what are they and what can you catch you catch from shore at lake wilcox. the reason i'm so interested in lake wilcox is because it is a five minute bike ride from my house and i would be able to fish alot more if i knew where to fish and what to use. thanks in advance for any advice you give.

Are you seeing the dead fish in the winter, spring, fall or summer? There is a large winter fish kill, the result of depleted oxygen levels in the deeper areas. This is caused by phosphorus spikes due to leaking septic tanks. :D

I'm not sure what specific dead fish you saw on the shores of Lake Wilcox, but the lake has Largemouth bass, Pike, Crappie, Carp and panfish. There are some pretty big bass in the Lake.

Lake Wilcox is generally shallow in most areas near the shore, making shore fishing a challenge, but has very deep areas in the center of the lake, 60 feet in the deepest spots.

i have seen a dead pike but the ones i'm talking about are usually a foot long yellowish in colour and in summer. by the way, i have plans for a flat bottomed wooden boat that i plan to build in june. its a rowboat so i'll probably take to lake in my dads trailor to get to the deep spots

Sounds like suckers, which are also in Lake Wilcox. You're building a boat? Nice!

i'm not getting the actual wood for the boat until june but it will only cost $100-150 and will only take about three days to build. it's buildable with only hand tools so it'll be extra easy with things like my dads table saw, planer and router. i'll probably be able to make it in twelve hours.

sound sweet...did you get the plans off the internet?? Take lotsa picture, sounds like a really cool project, and in the end you get a boat!!

David Kearney make sure to give it a lot of testing before heading out loaded with your fishing gear, that could make it one expensive trip fast!

:D i can guess what you mean. dont worry about that. the boat is going to be solid wood, no crappy MDF or particle board, also its going to be coated with two coats of marine grade polyurithane so no leaks( i doesn't say that in the instructions but i thought better safe than sorry :D ) and held together with 1/8 of an inch screws(the instuctions just say nails but that is to keep it simple) and is going to be able to hold up 600 pounds of weight. nice and safe for just a teen and his fishing gear.

too bad i have to wait till june (my dad is getting me the wood and spending time to help as a birthday present, he was surprised when he asked ahead of time and didn't get "fishing equipment" as an answer :D
