what fish is this?

So me and a few friends were on the QEW where we saw this huge old rusted boat close to highway, where we decided to stop and have a look. walking around the area we saw a few dead fish lying on the ground, all surrounded by some thick rope. The fish haven't decomposed yet so they should have died recently, but we have no idea what they are. Here's a look.

Did a bit of google searching and I thought it was a northern snakehead, but I was told otherwise by a friend. Any clue what this is?

Male chinook salmon. Go back there in Late September/October ( depending on location ) to see live ones.

what dozer said, the males grow a large kype on their lower jaw and get dog like teeth, the females retain their ocean/lake head shape

There is an area up river from there that is a fish sanctuary in the fall that is a great place to watch the great fish struggle, I took my son and we saw salmon, browns and steelies. Oh and for those that like rare species the ever elusive MNR agents laying down the law on people who do not understand what sanctuary means. Good to see and for my son to learn.

Yep, male chinook salmon. It's really strange that you found a salmon that wasn't decomposed to nothing. Usually their bodies are gone by late november.

I've gotten bit by a few snakes (pythons, garder/rat) and they really just leave a little hole that might bleed a little. Only time a snake bit is bad is if it gets infected...

Ok wrong comparison . The bite would be quite a bit less painful then an alligator bite

How big? Was it a premature salmon coming in for baitfish or a spawner that missed the run? pics??
