My friend caught a fish this summer and he doesn't know what it is.
I got this information from him:
-The fish looked like a bass but it didn't have a spiny first dorsal fin
-It was brown all over and got lighter closer to the belly
-It had sandpaper-like teeth, rather than large sparp teeth
-It didn't have and spines anywhere on it
-It didn't have any whiskers, barbels, spots, stripes or any other patterns on it whatsoever.
I drew this and he thinks this looks similar
I anyone knows any possible identifications on this fish it would be VERY much appreciated
Thanks

cool drawing.... so it wasn't a smallmouth bass eh? How large was it? what did he catch it on? In still water or current? did it jump when hooked? my mind keeps going back to smallmouth...

That's some great detail in the eye. :p

I'm with Dugger here. We need some more info or an actual photo.

Based on the photo and description, it is a cross between carp and bass :-D
But seriously, I think it is a bass, based on teeth and that it did not have whiskers

Unfortunately he didn't get a picture and he just asked me if I knew.
He caught it off the end of his dock in more-or-less still water, with a worm I believe.
He didn't say anything about it jumping, he just brought it partially out of the water to unhook it, but it definately not a smallmouth as it did not have any spines.

Bowfin or burbot?
