Is there a preference that you guys find that stand the test of a salmon on the line? I'm running 12lb mono as my main with 8lbs test leader with a size 6 Gamakatsu hook. I've been using a "clinch" knot, but sometimes the leader breaks off at the swivel.

Just came across this Youtube video of an improved clinch knot...I'll try this one out:

I'm using my new 9'6" rod with a spinning reel. The drag isn't set too tight, since it does take a semi-strong tug to pull the line out.

I always use a palomar knot. If I am tieing a leader without a swivel I will use a double uni-knot.

This one!

Be forewarned, if you botch this knot, it will not work. Takes a bit of practice.

1)Once tied, and pulled on both ends, grab the hook with one hand and pull the main line with the other.

2)Then pull both ends of the line.

Repeat as necessary. If the line hasn't unraveled or snapped, you've done it right. There's probably some easier way to know if you've tied it right or not, but I usually do this test.

I stopped losing a lot of hooks and lures when I began using this knot.

Never knew Mr. Lambignan was such a ladies man. heh

Yes, that's the clinch knot I will try out this weekend. I've tried pallomar knots, but I haven't mastered yet with mono & fluoro lines yet. It's not a problem for me with braided and it did take some practice to get right!

I use the trilene knot that I learned from italo's website. He's a good guy even though he's done a few illegal things in his younger years. I feel bad cause me and one of frozenfires friend's mike were making fun of him in a chatroom lol.

true true. Italo's a great guy. Everyone makes mistakes and learns from them.
