So I booked all next weekend off because the temp looks to be 10 degrees out. I've read that channel cats bite in 10 degree plus water... Has any one caught fish in the cold? Obviously in 10 days the water will barely increase but I'm hoping that in a shallow river it may be warm enough?

You should be good, channel catfish usually feed in the cold water months. The trick is finding where they are holding.

Thanks! That's all the hope I needed. I went out for carp twice last week. Tried a few different rigs, tossed a few boilies for a chum but nothing. Figured some ripe cut bait and cats shod liven things up right!?

the water levels are the bigger worry right now, depending on where you are going the river is likely still ripping from the huge rain fall we had and the melting snow won't help either. Hopefully for all of us the precipitation will hold off a bit next week.

Channel cats are def on the move now. Should be moving into their spawning areas. The next 4 to 6 weeks should actually be the best fishing all year! Finding the warmer water will def help.

Wait for the water temps to raise a bit, usually between winter and spring transitions Cats will be a lot more active and hungry! I usually find the sweet spot is between late April and early May. The last couple years has been May long weekend when they finally decide to perk up a little bit. You will find some of the best action bank fishing with Chicken liver or Shrimp. Tight Lines

I hated using chicken livers cause id lose too much of it casting. Using spawn mesh in the 4" size works good at keeping it together.
