different temps for different fish, any specifics you looking for?
And this site might be very useful to you. Spawning temps, how they spawn and even the ontario / world record for the species of fish.

Thanks for the link, the main fish that I am looking for is crappie like most people around this time of year.

I been to the canal like 5 times in the last 2 weeks with my g/f and friend. We fish at the pump house and at the bridge and didn't do very well. In total we got like 6 fish. But last thursday when we were coming back there was two guys coming back with their boat at about 11:30pm. They got 2 buckets of crappie and one guy said he got a 2lbs crappie. I didn't believe him at first cause i never seen one myself. Than the SOB pulled it out of the pail and I was 'Holy F***' the crappie was like 20 inches and you could of fit your whole hand in its mouth. The guys told me the took the boat about 5 mins north of that hwy 11 bridge.

F4D you're a very angry person. Lol
I've yet to have seen a 2# crappie myself either, and had even less luck than you at the holland river. Went......3 -4 times, and have yet to land a fish from there. Same deal as last year for me

It's good to hear that some people are doing well at the holland, 2lbs is a big crappie, however I hate to hear that it was in a bucket and not released. PIC'S are PROOF to any story and remeber that 30 is the limit. The boat is the key thing when crappie fishing because you can go track down the fish and not just wait for it. I have been 5 times and caught each time but the bite was slow and the fish had no size.

just came back from keswick...fished for 1.5-2 hours, landed about 20 crappie...however, only a couple were decent. also surprised to land a couple largemouth as well...on UL gear, they definitely felt like 2lb crappie!!!!

if two guys had two buckets of fish, i'm sure they were over the limit. they probably had no idea the regulations were changed.
if i ever land a 2lb crappie, it would definitely be released after taking some measurements...then i would get a replica mount made.

I am glad some people don't believe the 2lbs crappie as i did when he told me. So when he pulled it out i had my friend take a picture of it with him holding it. Ill see if my friend can send me the picture so I can post it hear for you all to see what i saw.

nice job anthony, really wished I went with you now .
Now I really want to go!!!!

yeah, it was pretty much non-stop haha...
what i thought was weird was that everyone kept targetting sunfish with worms...seems like all the crappie anglers are gone????
everyone started to leave when the sunfish started to slow down...the crappie picked up and as i'm reeling them in, everyone is walking back to the car to pack their stuff away!

i shouldn't be a bad influence though...studying comes first.

Study can come later  I have 1 exam in like 8 days...Ocad FTW .

wow...i had no idea you went to OCAD...i want to see some of your work!
isn't it mostly project based? Like handing in a big assignment at the end of the course?
What year are you in?
I have a cousin attending ocad...and my sister was going to go too, but apparently gave up after trying to piece together her portfolio.

First year, in Illustration - I'm not feeling too good about my work yet, I get projects all year long. Around 2 - 3 / week and if I'm really lucky, then I have like 5. On those weeks, I really feel like I wanna die.
The only thing good is that I get 1 exam per semester. I think I might get 2 in 2nd year though.

Hmm...

I my sister went to OCA(D) back... oh~12+ years ago? for computer graphics than she went to Sheridan College to do some 3D stuff. I remember staying there overnight there with my sister because she had to use the 3D Max Studio while I played Doom II I found on one of the Mac computer.
Later than she got a copy(caugh*caugh*) of that 3D program which ran on our home super computer powered by Intel 486DX2 66MHz, 8MB RAM, 340MB 4200RPM HDD on DOS.

Ooops, off topic. Sorry.

Yes, don't worry, many reports to come.

She is doing fine and yes you guys are right, if she wasn't around, I would be out on the water every day after PIKE season closed up on the 31st of March. I could get out now to but right now I just don't have the itch or edge to fish. Wife has already given me the green light.

In due time. A lot depends on water temperature. Lots of people fail to realize that. The water may still be to cold for the spawn. Once the temp is in the window, it will be fast and furious.

Dirk....
Congrats on the baby girl and looking forward to some great reports, just wondering if you would know what the temp should be for spawning? I have tried to research it but with no luck would appriciate the help. GOOD LUCK and again Congrats

As for time, early spring. Pre spawn Crappie fishing is the best but it all depends on water temp. For pre spawn it is 48-51 F. Shallow water is where they will be found feeding aggressively.

Spawn occurs when the temps are from 52-60 F. After they spawn is another great oppurtunity. After spawn they will be inactive for a few days to recover their energy.

Bottome line, watch the weather and try and see what the water temp is. I gaurentee if you fish when the temp is bewteen 48 and 51 you will catch fish.

Dirk

diggyj I could fish with u as your know your stuff right well! Impressed~

excellent info Dirk!

9 more days to go!!!!
can't wait to land my first real slab of the year...the simcoe ones (10"+) have been eluding me this spring...
Met up with ec1 again last night at keswick...so many of the little ones.... i guess this means in 3-4 years time, there will be lots of big ones haha.
I will give it another go this Saturday morning.
Anyone else?

also... idesign, were you there yesterday evening as well?

Lol Anthony, Saturday MORNING!?
This weekend if I can bug my uncle to come out, I will be trying the other lake I told you about. If not, I'm going to try and avoid Simcoe until next year

Yah...should be my last time before next friday midnight at buckhorn.

I'm just going cause another friend called me up asking to head up with him.

I talked with a buddy of mine who has been out on Simcoe a few days this week. He advised me that the water temps are still way to cold for pre-spawn CRAPPIE fishing. He told me that the water temps started out at 36 to 37 degrees F. They have since warmed up to about 38 to 39 degtees F. Still to cold.

As I mentioned, ideal spawning temps are 48-51 degrees F, so you wont see any slabs just quite yet. Be patient and wait it out.

Dirk....
