Which colour of braid to use

Lol. Makes it hard to decide ah. Hearing al the ups an downs. I tried fireline once an after a season of salmon I hated it. Without sissors yur dead in the water from chewing on the darn thing for an hour to change set ups. Lol. Plus I found it hard on the rod eyes. So I switched back to maxima green.

A good idea if you use the high viz yellow is to take a marker and mark the first 4 to 6 feet with a dark colour so you do not spook the fish.

I use a dark green Power Pro braid... the only line that I swear by so far. A little bit of fraying here and there but nothing my swiss army knife cant handle. But by far the most efficient and "lucky" line I've ever used... On a side note, I spotted a SpiderWire White Braid line yesterday at Bass Pro Shop... had never seen it come in white before... is the darker the line, the better it is? or the opposite?

i doubt that the color of the line matters too much.
i have most of the braids on my reels; powerpro green, powerpro red, fireline original, fireline crystal, spiderwire ultra cast, spiderwire camo, spiderwire stealth, spiderwire EZ.
they are all amazing lines and rarely fail. i would say spiderwire EZ braid is my favourite at this time. resons: doesn't absorb water, if you get some nests its super easy to untangle.

most people that have problems with braided line use spinning lures (spoons, spinners), and most of these problems arise from line twists. those that use spinning reels get the twists faster.
knots, line wrapping around guides and bird nets doesn't mean there is a problem with the line, it means there are some flaws in your fishing technique.
use a quality ball bearing swivel all the time, if you cannot use it directly at the lure use it 2ft above the lure.

My newest thing for my rods are:

Baitcaster 1 (medium heavy) - 60lb Diawa Braid, Green Moss colour with 40 lbs Flourocarbon Leader
Baitcaster 2 (medium) - 8lb Flourocarbon
Spinning (medium heavy) - 40 lb Diawa Braid, Green Moss colour with 8 lb Flourocarbon Leader
Spinning (medium) - 20 lb white Spiderwire braid
Trolling - 40 lb red Power Pro braid

The visible colours help to see your line when you need to make an accurate cast when precision is important. I don't believe that there are any durability differences in the colours. I find that a heavier weight braid does not work well on a spinning reel but the lighter ones are fine.

Whats the point in having 40lb braid with an 8lb leader? Might as well go 20lb to 8lb leader.

Reason is sometimes I use that reel with 40lb and put a heavier leader on it. The diameter of 40lb braid and 8lb flouro is the same, so that is the lightest and what's on there now, but I will change the leader depending upon what and where I'm fishing.

Myself i like the spiderwire and usually use 30lb in green, i tried the camo also but i find it absorbs to much water to fast.... If i go 15ft or deeper i use a 20lb red colour braid made by power pro, and seems to be working great and backing up the articals i've read up on it... Just picked up Spiderwire Fluoro-Braid, they say its a braid that sinks like a fluorocarbon, noly time will tell though... I do tie leads on if i'm in clear waters though seems to work when the fish aren't really biting....

I use PowerPro braid and I have the Vis Yellow on one rod, Moss Green on another rod and red on another. They all work great, I use a fluoro leader with all.

If you have troublke cutting braid, go to Walmart, in the fishing section they sell a 1200-Degree Fahrenheit Berkley TEC Hotwire Line Cutter. Works great for braid and it is around $10 bucks. Cutsand welds the end of braided lines so it won’t fray.

That line cutter is pretty sweet, I just use the wire cutters on my pliers since they are usually in my pocket anyways but that line cutter could take away some of the worries that come as a result of cutting the line really close to the knot.

In my OPINION you are using way too heavy line.
Not critizing in any manner, just giving some pointers based upon oberservation & experience.

Even though modern braid has similiar diameters to mono etc, the heavier the line the more resistance to casting, accuracy ... etc.
A lot of "PRO- BASS" fishermen will use a heavy braid, but their technique is based on simply slamming the fish and getting it to the boat in seconds.

They do not want to take even a "Small Chance" of losing the fish.
TO EACH THEIR OWN (and i support what ever means a fisherman's personal preference is)

However, in general what I have noticed is this:

A lot of "new fishermen" (Including myself - many, many years ago) will initially start off using: Big Hooks, Big Weights, Heavy Line .. etc.
Ultimately , it will cause less STRIKES from fish (under normal conditions).

Once you have become very comfortable with the FEEL of your Setups, Bites ... Setting Hooks and landing fish, Your CONFIDENCE LEVEL should skyrocket.
Don't worry about using lighter line.

It makes the presentation better, the fight more enjoyable and challenging.
Again, not being or sounding "Elitest" (Not saying use: 2lb)

If your generally fishing for the average species here in ONTARION (Pike, Trout, Bass, Perch, Walleye) a line somewhere in the 10lb range is very suitable.
Modifications can easily be made with the use of a LEADER (Whether that be: Floro, Braid, Steel).

There are always logical exceptions for Weight (Fast, Deep Water) & Hooks (Texas Rigging for Bass, Larger Trebles for Pike) ... but SMALL works perfect for LARGE FISH.
Just make sure you are using Moderate to Good equipment, Make your Ties well, and have the hook/bait set properly.

As for the COLOUR of your MAIN LINE: Doesnt seem to make any difference. If you like HIGH VISIBILITY then go for it.
In situations where you need Stealth (Gin Clear water for Trout) then having a good invisible LEADER LINE is all you need.

He has his 8lb flurocarbon for normal situations. By the sounds of it he probably does alot of flipping and pitching in very heavy weed cover. In those situations it doesnt matter if he has a 1lb bass or a 5lb bass on the line, the hardest part about landing the fish will be fighting the weeds. When I fish Puslinch lake the lily pads there break me off with my 20lb braid on a regular basis. If I had some money it would make sense for me to get a similar baitcasting setup to his 40lb setup. The only thing that doesnt really make sense to me is the 8lb leader on the 40lb braid, there is way too much of a gap there.
