I am in the market for some waders and I have my eyes set on a pair of breathable stocking foot waders. Now my problem is I am not really to familiar with the brands and what is a good product and what is an overpriced product. Obviously my other problem is I don't want to drop 300 on waders atm.

I was hoping someone could help me out with some options to look into, my fear is buying waders that suck and having them leak on me. I am the kind of guy who will spend all day out in the water fishing so comfort (breathable) is something in my consideration.

Should I just go with an entry level Simms pair (I can't find any terrible reviews on them)?

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

IMO, get a pair of SIMMS. They are more than worth the initial investment. Also comes with a lifetime warranty.. which is a huge bonus.

I'm having the same predicament, i want a nice set of waders but nothing to crazy, but i'm willing to spend between 2-300 to get something good, I was thinking entry level simms also. I cant justify the g3's lol.

I just got the headwaters recently which run around $300. I've put about 50 hours on them so far. First pair of breathables and it's like night and day compared to neoprene. Worth every penny in my opinion, extremely comfortable as well.

Believe it or not, I beat around the bush for many years in a pair of Simms Freestones (not as robust as G3s, but a little bit of care and you're good).

Ha this keeps coming up.

When I got my waders this is how I narrowed down my choices:

1. Use: I planned to use only in fall and spring so warmth is #1. 5.5 mm my requirement.
2. Boot/stocking foot: The soles of the boots can wear out, then what? Do you have to throw out the waders that are still good? I went with stocking, cheaper to replace boots then whole waders, I think.
3. Brand: Right away eliminated CT product line at the time, they were all unknown. I went to LeBaron and got Browning.
4. Durability: I've had these for about 20 years, mind you I did not use them every year. They are still leak free, warm as heck and because I've put on some weight...lol. getting tight on me but still wearable.
5. Reviews: Bass Pro has a review section check them out.

Good luck, stay dry and warm.

Gonna go try on some simms looking at the freestone stocking foots.

Thanks for the replies!

If u fish alot and u fish hard get Simms.

What he said!

I have had my G3's for three seasons. I fish ALL year. kneel on rocks, sit wherever I want, crash through bushes....Fish HARD in them and I am yet to have a leak. Without question one of the best peices of fishing gear I have ever picked up.

I remember searching online for Simms and stumbled over a site which had a list of then as well as prices. Anybody know any similar site? Or a pair of Simms under 300 :))

I am almost certain that the entry level simms are cheaper than $300.. For the price you can't beat lifetime warranty for that price tag,

Would one be needing waders on the upcoming Saugeen trip?
Not at the cemetary hole or the trailer park hole. All of the other good spots you will need waders. It would suck for there to be no fish at the accessible holes so people move to other holes and you get left behind.

Jlisk if you can afford the simms definately get them. I got some hodgemands breathables at a store closing sale for 60 bucks regular 100 or something and they were a piece of crap. only lasted me one season before they sprung a leak where the stocking foot connects to the neoprene. I think I may be looking for a pair of simms breathables for christmas and then upgrade my cheap neoprenes in a few years once they start to leak as well.
