Hey guys, Im very new to this forum but im hoping someone can help me with something.

Im gonna be headin down to the whirlpool this weekend, Ive fished there a few times this summer and caught carp bass sheeps and even lost a musky all by just fishin corn or worms on the bottom. However this trip im lookin to get some steel!! Im nowhere new to steelheading but I only fish smaller lake o tribs never float fished a river this big. Im wondering if anyone can help me out as to what size floats and weights to use and how deep to run due to the very unpredictable bottom and current, I have a variety of floats between the 3-8 gram weight will this be enough in the heavy current or should I buy some bigger ones or even slip floats? Im also thinking of fishing roe on the bottom just like I do with worms.

Thanks again if anyone can help out.

Floats down! MIke

-Fish off of bottom
-8/10 gr floats
-You will need to adjust weight for the amount of flow at the pool.. it can change drastically.

GL!

10+G Slip floats.

I use 10-15G fixed floats, but the idea is to get enough weight on so your presentation gets down.

Gulp minnows and big dirty roe bags.

Cheers and good luck

Thanks guys!! I had a feeling my creek sized floats weren't gonna cut it. Cant wait to get down there although not looking forward to that walk back to the truck LOL Have a good thanksgiving weekend everyone!!

Mike

Theres my best from the whirlpool for my first two trips, A 4-5 pound sheep, lost a 30+ inch musky while bottom fishing a worm once! My 8# fluorocarbon leader had no chance, as soon as we saw it and it saw us she bolted and that was it

Went down to the pool yesterday, fished for a about 3 hours and lost a salmon on a little cleo spoon, saw other guys land a nook and a bow

how busy was it? I used to go to school there and we would go quite a bit. Haven't been in a year, I miss that place. Enjoyed the hike down as much as the fishing almost. NOTE: hike DOWN. haha.
