We're putting a boat in the water at Fishmasters this week end. I've never fished the area other than from the shore below the dam. I'm just doing research so anyone that can tell me anything that is great. Anything you guys can tell me would be put to good use. The boat is very lake worthy so I am looking for any input I can get.
Alfie.

If the boat is very lake worthy then i would forget the river(though the dam area can be good for mostly cats, silver bass and carp, and there is some walleye) and head to the mouth of erie. The rock wall adjacent to the pier over the river will hold some fish, mostly smallies and sheepshead. They were hitting perch a month ago in the pier area, but i dont know if they are still happening.
If cats are what you are after i would stay fairly close to the dam....1-200 yards out on the edge of the current should get you hooked up.

Thanks for the input "Red," the boat is very lake worthy, 18 ft, 60 hp motor and a trolling motor too. We also have all the safety gear as we got pulled over in Hamilton Harbor a month ago and passed the inspection. I would love to hook into a 20 lb channel cat, so the dam sounds good, now that bass is open I also wouldn't mind bringing in a few of them. Smallies are crazy at times. So I will take your advice.
What about some eating size Lake Erie Perch, are they nearby?
Alfie.

The huge perch were there a month ago off the end of the pier about 200 yards...not sure about now. I'd think a controlled drift with small jigs tipped with minnows woudl get some nice perch in that area for sure these days.

Thanks again RedSkullz. I already have worms in the fridge and frozen sardines and shrimp for cats. I presume we will be able to get minnows at Fishmasters. We're headed out Sunday. I hope to fish below the dam in the morning and maybe get a cat or 3 and possibly some walleye. Then head out to the lake or river mouth for some bass and perch. Apparently one of my friends has the GPS coordinates of some ship wrecks in the area where there are supposed to be some really nice smallies. Byng Island was suggested to me, anyone know anything about that?

Thanks Alfie.
