I hope I am not breaking any forum rules here but wanted to share an experience with Wilsons. I am no affiliated with them or get get backs in anyway but feel good customer service is so rare these days it should be rewarded

So I ordered my Orvis Safe Passage Sling pack from Wilsons. When I placed the order they had 2 options for the sling pack, loaded and pack only. The web site had both options listed at the same price. so I obviously took the fully loaded option. my invoice clearly stated fully loaded as well. When my pack arrived it was empty. None of the goodies that come in a Orvis loaded pack included. I was disappointed but not totally surprised.

I contacted the Toronto store and included the invoice shownig fully loaded had been selected and was asked to call in as i was clearly mistaken the fully loaded option was two and half times the price of what I paid. So I called the manager and had my back up a bit as I was not clearly mistaken and I had the invoice.

Well a couple of minutes on the phone with Bill and he says listen. There is no way I can give you the load out for that price. What is it you needed most? I explain to him that I was new and the load out gave me all the little stream side tools I needed. I was not really concerned about the fly box or flies as I had those already. He says ok let me put something together for you and mail it out today.

So I am like ok I am going to get this little pack of crap that I do not care about.

Well somehow the envelope arrived in my mailbox the next day. How he did this is a miracle in itself as anyone who lives north of 89 knows it takes 4 days to get a letter accross town let alone from the city up. But anyway the envelope contained every item listed in the loadout except fly box and flies. Not all Orvis, a little mix from Simms, Orvis, Dr. Slick but every single item.

The fact they made good like that and managed to get it to me over night has won me as a customer moving forward. And looking at their web site and seeing they will price match means I really have no need to buy anything elsewhere,

the owner and staff of Wilsons are not normal--they care man..good guys that make a difference---jim Wilson is a down to earth fly dude and rob is not only a great guy--he wears his orvis belt like a kennedy LOL

if they weren't so far I would only shop there and any chance I get to fish up there I am in there ....

Anyone been to the store in fergus? They seem really poorly stocked when i called them.

The Fergus store has everything you need but doesn't has as much as the Toronto store I don't work or speak for Wilson's but the problem I see is you could stack the Fergus store with everything you could ever need but people can only fish in Fergus for like 5 months of the year it's kinda out of the way for most the Toronto store can have more of a customer base all year long but I myself never have a problem finding what I need in Fergus and then up spending an hour talking to rob or mike they have a great staff

Only been to the Fergus store and I can say that my experience was 10/10. Above and beyond what was needed for a new customer, from out of town to boot. I try to stop in every time I head up to give them some business it just feels right.

Hope all is well with the kid, never been to the store but Rob is top drawer. Met him at the sportsman show and talked online with him, he doesn't care if you're a novice and won't try and oversell you. We need more people like him.

I remember when I bought my switch rod from them last February... The manager threw in 3 intruder and 2 general practitioner flies at 5.95 a piece on the house... Another time, I bought a spool of the S.A fly line, Skagit extreme, and a couple sink tips totaling somewhere in the ball park of $150, the same guy took $23 off the top... only good things to say about Wilson's as they have become my primary fly shop... speaking of which I'm going there tomorrow to pick me up a pair of those orvis trout design fly boxes probably the brown and brook patterns

Wilsons is a great place, the only problem I have with them is the prices, some is great, some is a bit off. For instance lady Amherst tails are $20 at sail, at wilsons $10, but their marabou is $7 for a pack???

Marabou select is $3.50 and standard plumes are 2.99. Wilson's prices are equivalent or less than anyone one in the region and if you see something that looks like it may be off, by all means bring it to our attention. Fly tying material is a tough category because often one distributor is out of an item and we than have to get it from another which can play havoc with our prices. My sense is, if you saw marabou for $7.00 it was a larger bag or a select grade. We currently have nothing in our system at that price. I know you were merely using it as an example but my point is, Wilson's is definitely not more expensive than anyone else but we do tend to inventory only premium product giving the perception that we are expensive. To draw a parallel, it would be like comparing clothing from The Bay to Walmart: The Bay typically sold premium, brand name products that cost more where Walmart makes it's money on less expensive "Branded" clothing.

I started on the fly about a month ago and wilsons fly shop in fergus gave some of the best help I could ask for! Great group of guys
