The weather this past weekend was interesting to say the least but we still managed to hit some nice steelhead and one toothy critter.
Thursday was the best day with 35 steelhead landed and Saturday there were white caps on the river and float reel blues with the line wrapping around the reel stem.
Friday we had an added bonus of a pike hitting on the retrieve of the float with a trailing worm . Quite a suprise when your rod buckles over retrieving your float and an explosive pike is on the other end.

nice fish, thanks for posting and sharing. once i was at the niagara whirlpool and i heard another fisherman had a sturgeon on,the float rod was really double over he fought it for a while then it broke off.anyway must have been fun to catch that pike on your float rod.

Nice going. I wonder what is the record number of steelies in a day for OFF members. I nominate you to OFF Rainbow Guru status..........lol. :D

nice hen rainbow ......is your rod shimano? wind+ centerpin= lots of frustration
Ya , I use a Shimano " Convergence " - 12' - 6 " slow action rod , light with back bone . Under 100.00 at Bass Pro.
My float reel is a Raven Vectra SST-3 , also very light , so it compliments my rod nicely .
You don't want a heavy rod and reel combo cause you'd soon get tired holding and raising it all day .

Nice pictures. How was the river in term of clarity and height?
Conditions were low and clear , but with sandy bottomed rivers the fish blend in so very well and they are always associated with logs and downed trees.
You just have to go into stealth mode and never stand above a hole , always stay up river of the target and drift down to the fish and if you stay absolutely still in the water , you can actually see the water rising and rippling when the fish are active .

We normally see one or two pike in the fall hitting the worm or sometimes they attack the float and we also have five to six foot sturgeon in the river.
My buddy had one on for an hour and finally landed it at a mere 45 lbs. a baby , you know only when you hook one by the fact that the bottom is moving . LOL

Thanks for the nomination , but I'll have to decline as we all know those kind of days happen infrequently and it's a good thing because it's NOT quantity we seek - it's Quality.
I'd rather hit 6 hard fighting fish whether they be 2 lbers or 12 lbers , having to out smart your target and work at it makes you a better fisherman and over all a better person .
I met my best friend and constant companion on the river 25 years ago and there are very few " serious " fishermen that I have disliked and we hope to meet more along the way .

WELL DONE!
Great pics and beautiful fish.

Enjoyable day (Arent they all ...Fishing)
Thanks for the share!

i run 13 ft clarus also very affordable light yet strong, this rod flew out of the truck on the 400 and did two end over enders. didn't even blow an insert out of a guide. paired up with okuma is very light and fishes almost as good as my IM8 and custom stanton did for a fraction of the cost, if the person who stole it from the back of a white 96 dakota is out there hope it breaks on you while fighting the fish of a lifetime.

P.S that is a cool pic of "wakes" downstream. fish hard and fish proud
