Wind - Cold - Snow and Steelhead

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

Got out Tuesday and we had some more action , the rain brought more fish in and big ones too .Gotta love those dew worms , we tried roe bags and got no reply.
Nice chromers!
-I hear you will be getting more snow this weekend.. Hoping to make it up there myself.. Just hope my mate doesn't bail on me,

Wednesday we had a visit at the river from our local C.O. - Rick Williams and great to hear that since the catch and release section of the Notty was introduced in 2008 there has been " 0 " charges laid against anglers trying to cheat the regs. I hope this means that more anglers are accepting the fact that a fish does not have to be killed to be appreciated. I have grown over the years to love steelhead so much that I couldn't possibly kill such a noble fish . But that's just me , I'm not implying that you shouldn't .

Notta -

I am super impressed with your fishing abilities. I've been following some of your posts closely and can truly appreciate what a great spidey-sense you have when it comes to hunting steelhead. Question for you - do you just whacky rig the dew worms under your float? I fish the Notty as well and haven't had much luck on roe lately. Flies - lots of takers, but they haven't been hitting spawn sacs at ALL.

...that does not mean that some might be poaching. But that's GREAT to hear.

The fish are there to be taken to a certain degree, but I'm with you. I don't keep it unless its gonna die.

Looks like you had a good fall so far!
Keep it up!

I personally would like to see 100% CATCH & RELEASE ( & barbless) in most pressured areas.
I have nothing against people who choose to keep fish ... and I'm certainly not a "Tree Hugger" or extremist.

*SMILES*

I just believe that if we had this standard in most area(s) of Southern Ontario ... there would be more fish and a healthier sustained population.
All the great efforts of stocking, pollution reduction, stream improvement have made significant differences ...

However, the harvesting of Fish (in my opinion) still remains the GREATESS loss.
I think many people are open to this.

I respect those who are not ... but in the long run, isnt it about the CATCH & CHASE .... NOT the KEEPING?

I catch and release 90% of the time, but I will admit that I do find it more enjoyable when i'm keeping. I almost feel like i'm in a tournament when ive told someone they can expect something for the table that evening.

Caught this little guy the other day , by the colour and spot pattern, I would almost guess he was a resident " rainbow ".View attachment 8737
