As an avid fan of Canada and the Olympic Games, I thought I would start a thread where everyone can comment and share their thoughts. Looking forward to the next 2 weeks and hearing from all you other forum members.
Canada already has a bronze medal courtesy of Mark McMorris of Oshawa, On, as pointed out by JMatt on another thread.
Couple of early comments from day 1.
Why can't the Russians change their damn prime time to match ours? LOL.
What the heck is team figure skating? I've heard of pairs before, but team? Do they have a goalie to stop the hottie in the short skirt from sliding across the goal line if she falls?
In woman-speak, is Wayne Gretzky spelled Hayley Wickenheiser? I think so. She is in her 5th Olympics and already sports 3 gold medals and a silver I believe as well as 2 tournament MVP's. She also has a nice goal today.
Did anyone ever hear of Sochi, Russia before the Olympics were announced a few years back? I didn't.

To continue the debate from the last Olympics, who wins the games? Most Gold or most medals? Years back the papers used to show medal standings and also had a point standings system which I think awarded pts for a top 10 finish, but that has disappeared as far as I know.

Anyway, I hope things go well for the games, and I hope things go well for team Canada.

I remember a snowboarder by the name of Matt Morrison, many years ago when I used to go boarding on the slopes around Oshawa reguarly.

Mark McMorris appears to be from Saskatchewan.

Thats what the TV is saying about Mark McMorris. JMatt said he was from Oshawa. I went with that.

the youngest of the 3 sisters gets the gold! imagine if all 3 sisters on the podium!!
Just saw the medal presentation, it was awesome to see the 2 sisters on the podium, although 3 would have been better. Justine cryed her eyes out when the anthem was played.
Canada has another Silver guaranteed in team figure skating of all things today. I have a new question. When those skaters go into their spins and spin like 20 times how do they carry on with their routine. I know I would be dizzy as hell and fall down after a spin like that.

it'll be interesting to see if the US wins the ice dancing event.........since that french newspaper put out the rumours of some underhanded judging between the US and russia, the US was going to help boost up russias scores in the team skate to win it, and in return the russian judge is going to boost up the US scores so they will win the ice dancing

Awesome showing by Canada - 3rd place finish! Easily could have been second place (...ice dancing). Hockey didn't disappoint, mens and womens were both amazing competitions. So many great stories from these games from our Canadian athletes (Denny Morrison, Dufour-Lapointe sisters, Charles Hamelin...) All around great performance.

Can't wait till South Korea!

Agreed. Curling didn't disappoint either. I think short-track and long-track speed skating came up a bit short of Vancouver, but we will be back. The Dutch really killed in speed-skating this year as they almost always do. They had a 1,2,3,4 finish in one womans race.
Our free-style skiers also lagged a bit behind Van, but our up and comers will be there in Korea. I look forward to those games too.
