Greetings!

Merry Christmas!! or Happy Holidays for few of those strange people.
(You don't like our rules, get the F)#(* out! Sorry totally off topic. We'll discuss it later)

I personally drive a 2005 Honda Civic with NO POWER WINDOW. Anyways, about a week or two ago I bought my first ever winter tires and had my first experience few days ago when we had that snow.
I wasn't sure how it would handle compare to all-season tires in winter conditions. First thing I noticed was it does give me more traction at stop & go. As for breaking? It does feel like I am gliding on top of packed snow like all season as much as before. I guess it works better than all-season.
Now as for higher! speed driving on snow? I felt that once I started my higher speed test drive... winter tire or all-season tires it didn't make much of a difference. You are still driving on top of snow or whatever...

In conclusion, I do feel little safer driving with winter tires in winter conditions but! those idiots on the road still driving too fast, driving too close and breaking hard still makes me nervous as usual.

Defensive driving people!!!
By the way, 4X4/all wheel drive is no better than any other vehicles when it comes to breaking!

Thanks.

So how was/is your driving with winter tires?

i'm not offended by that comment although i am an athiest. i still celebrate Christmas though, not because of religion but because everyone else in my family does and it's a tradition. :D

It all depends on the winter conditions/type of winter tires, I've had a lot of different brands the best ones I had where Blizzacks, they r awesome.

Best thing to do is drive accordingly to the conditions, ppl don't realize how bad it can be even with 1cm of snow traction is greatly reduced.

4X4s r amazing in the snow, your right you can't stop just as with any other car but its more stable and can go thru almost anything and if you have the 4 low option your good for up to 1.5-2.5ft, ppl still have to be careful tho as in my old jeep we where doing well in almost 3ft until the snow packed into the rad and damaged it. The Jeep I have now tho is higher, heavier and better 4x4 tech. Its worth its weight in Gold on a day like today;)

MikeyMikey, you write about winter tires, then 2 days later we get snowed under. :D

I think winters make a world of difference. Better traction and control... of course that doesn't mean you can go zooming past others free of any problems... it just means you're ultimately more safe than those on all seasons... or worse..summers.

When I drove my mitsubishi eclipse, the difference was huge... I felt more confident and didn't really worry when it really went down.

Now that I drive my honda civic, I have yet to get winters and I'm slipping and sliding everywhere. I still plan to purchase a set as soon as possible... I drive a good 100 km everyday going to work and back (Mississauga from north east Scarborough).

Mikeymikey, what brand of tires did you get?

Well...

Just about everywhere was sold out on winter tires and I had to wait like 2 weeks from my local tire shop. Even than it was some off brand tires.

I got me a Cooper Saxon Winterblazers 185 70R 14 $650 and change after tax.

By the way...

As for Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.

Few years back at the airport, GTAA every year used to put a Christmas tree but certain groups of people found it offensive and somehow got GTAA to put it down for good.

All I say is.. if you don't like Canadian laws, policies, etc... either ignore it or why bother to live in Canada?
Just my personal opinion.

Ok, back to the original SUBJECT.

I did went out for a short test drive of the snow tires and yes. Just because you got a winter tires doesn't mean I should have drove fast. Oops. Overall I am happy with the tires over my balding all season

:D

hmmm... 650, is that with steel rims or without?
did you mount them on your stock OEM rims? I'm not sure if your civic model came with steel rims with hubcaps or alloys.

I'm looking to spend about 400ish...just for the tires.

650 includes... tax, steels, installation, mount & balancing.
14" steel was 45 each.

First ,,, see if you can even find winter tires.

Safe Driving!

God,,, we just got butt load of snow fall.

Yes I put snow tires on my wife's 2001 Jetta TDI and on my 2007 Grand Caravan - - there is a huge difference between snows and all seasons.

I've never put snow's on the two vehicles I've owned, I owned a 01 Seabring until i wrote it off in a bad rain storm, and now i'm on my last year lease of my 07 ranger that goes back in dec. My parents put snow tires on the neon that i use to drive of theres before i got my seabring, and now they use them on there pt cruiser, yes there's as in two, they do the pt cruiser meets and there decked out, my dad has underglow, i've never even have underglow, lol.

but I can say i dont really notice a difference between the tires to much. yes snow tires make a difference if your like balding, but i unno. I dont see the point in buying winter tires for a truck, even though mines not 4x4 just rear wheel, and oh man, let me say when my lease is up, i will NEVER get just a rear wheel drive vehicle again, talk about a HUGE mistake! lol. My trucks in the shop right now  so i`ve been driving my moms pt once n a while or my gfs protege, and they both have winters, and its still snow on the road, still going to be ice, and yes braking is still the same, I would more less say snow tires mean you wont get stuck as easily on unplowed streets, which is why truck is the shop(and only rear wheel drive), the oil got low got stuck on my struck, over revved and blew my oil pump, lol. So thats the only difference i would say is that i find there a but harder to stuck with, but really, a tire i dont think is going to make difference if you hit a patch of black ice or your going way to fast for the weather.

I'm still contemplating on it.

I was just in barrie snowboarding for the weekend and the amount of snow was crazy. On the way home, the road was very slippery and I wish I had bought them.

Even going to work this morning, the inside lane was very slick and my car would swerve going 80+kmph

Only two more months of this white stuff...so I think I may just get them for next winter.

Thanks for the info mikey.
