Beware all you fishermen using Yamaha motors!! I think Yamaha motors are recognized as being an excellent, reliable power plant, and I was going to buy a new boat equipped with one, until I learned something startling. You may not know (and some dealers either do not know or are not willing to tell you) is that you cannot get warranty support if you take your Yammy across the border - either from Canada to the US or from the US to Canada.

Since Yamaha Canada & Yamaha USA are separate companies, they will not pay for any warranty work not done in the country where the motor was purchased. Yamaha Canada also told me if I trailer my Canadian motor to the US and have a problem with the motor, they will not pay for any warranty repairs, even if they are done at a US authorized Yamaha service centre or dealer!!

I find this situation quite ridiculous, and it appears that Yamaha is the only outboard manufacturer that has this policy - Mercury and Evinrude confirmed that they offer international service. There is obviously no way I will be buying a boat with a Yamaha motor and anyone who makes regular trips across the border with their boat should seriously consider the potential costs of owning a Yamaha - your warranty in this case is basically useless.

If anyone from Yamaha Canada or Yamaha USA would like to comment, I'm listening!

The other problem is dealer support I recently purchased a yamaha pwc and just to find some yamalube oil has been a mission in itself. But this nonsense about not covering there product out of country is really disturbing. If they both use the trademark YAMAHA then it shouldn't matter where you bought the dam thing.

im not exactly sure what your complaining about here...

if you live in canada... buy a motor in canada...

if you live in the states... buy a motor in the states...

if your on a trip to another county and something breaks.... go to your home country and get it fixed.... like youll find a dealer to do warranty work on the spot anyways... youll likely have to wait a few days either way...

really... what are the odds that your new motor is gunna break on your annual trip to the states...?


and also... i live in canada and just purchased a yamaha out of NY state... and if i require warranty work i just bring it back to the NY dealer and theyll take care of it... the savings from buying in USA far outweighed the drive for warranty work... that i probably wont need cause its a yamaha...

The problem with OFF is that someone like Bigdaddy can join,become a member just to complain about a product (be a winer) to never return as a contributing member. They are just joining to vent. Just look at his empty profile and this is his one and only post. This thread should be deleted and his membership revoked, and prevented from joining. That's what I would do. This post has no value to our great site, it is the ranting of a unhappy customer who's been shunned by the manufacturer.

Does my Yamaha outboard motor have warranty coverage outside the United States?

As explained in your Yamaha Outboard Limited Warranty Statement, your warranty coverage is provided for your outboard while it is used in the United States (but not U.S. Territories), and also in Canada. If you need repairs while temporarily using your Yamaha in another country, contact the local authorized Yamaha distributor for that country. Yamaha will work with that distributor to make the needed repairs as quickly as possible. If you have to pay for a repair that you believe your warranty would have covered at home, present all repair orders, receipts, or other related documents to your local dealer when you return home. Your dealer will be able to contact Yamaha on your behalf to see if any refund can be provided. Be aware that your Yamaha model may not be sold in some countries. Therefore, a Yamaha dealer outside the United States or Canada may not have all of the replacement parts or technical information available to provide proper service. This may unavoidably delay repairs. Thank you for your understanding should this happen.
