If there is one thing special about 2010 for me, it is starting to fish after 15 years (and first time since coming to Canada). As soon as I throw the line in water it was like all the good memories came back and I got hooked, again, and much stronger this time!

Thanks to many good hints on this forum, and sometimes from a stranger on water, I have learned quite a lot on both techniques and ethics of fishing. It's like I did not know anything about it and anything new I learn gives a satisfying feeling. I have come to appreciate the sport and outing , rather than "catching". I will be away for a month and I can't say how much I miss the Ontario waters, landscapes, and fish!

Thank you all who contributed! .

Cheers!

A similar thing happened to me. I grew up fishing all the time. I had a strong fishing tradition on both sides of my family, so I was basically born with a rod in my hand. At some point in high school, girls, sports and partying became the priority and I pretty much forgot about fishing. But then when I went to University, low and behold, there was a salmon/steelhead river right behind my campus. (It's a river that gets mentioned a lot in this forum) I quickly reconnected with the sport I love and somehow managed to fit fishing into the mix once again. I haven't stopped since. It's an amazing sport, nothing beats it!

Hey, when you get back, maybe you can try your hand on some hard water!

Where are you going for a month anyway?

Visiting several countries in the middle east and also japan.

Love to try ice fishing when I get back IF I can find a partner who has the right gear (drill, etc) and willingness to teach

Cheers
