Welcome to the site! What setup do you use? I assume you like to fish for carp??? Where abouts are ya?

I live in Hamilton Ontario I like to use a fluorescent green, yellow spinner bait and the occasional grubs on jig. I don't mind carp I just prefer fish like bass trout and pike, even catfish sometimes

Cool. Lots of members from Hamilton.

Welcome! I'm from Hamilton as welll which you can probably tell from my username...lots of good fishing spots in the hamilton area which many people overlook!

really! I usually just go out by Caledonia at the grand but I can only catch 3-5 inch pickerel I know about other areas like Bronte creek and Mountsberg, and pier for, for carp. but the only thing is I really don't want to pay to go and fish for a day. other than that I cant think of any other spots

Welcome magicarp. I'm also in the Hammer, but prefer not to say I am from here (cause I'm not.)
When you fish Caledonia to you fish from shore? Caledonia is a good spot. Lots of Bass, Cats, some Pike and 'eyes. A few weeks ago some friends and I got about 20 Gar there one day.
(Why do I feel like I am repeating myself? Cause I am, many people from Hamilton have posed the same question as you.)
A month ago another forum member who had only fished from shore with limited results came along with me. A gave him an old pair of waders and he followed me out to the middle of the river and we got some nice Bass and Cats. I totally changed his opinion of the place. The Grand is pretty warm so you don't need waders, I often see guys out there in old sneakers.
The Grand is good from Caledonia all the way down to the river mouth, lots of fish. There are many access points, by following Caithness St east out of Caledonia you find many spots.
Not sure what you are saying about paying to fish, Bronte is free and right now Pike can be caught near the mouth and there are Smallies quite a way up. Can't help much with Mountsberg I've only been there once, but we didn't have to pay for that either.

I do fish from shore, I am hoping to eventually get myself a canoe or some cheap boat so I can get out into the middle of the river, as for the going out and standing in the river all the waders I have looked seem very expensive, guess that is just the brand and quality.

Ya magicarp you can get a cheap pair of waders at Crappy Tire for 30 or 40, they will last a couple years before you have to find something better. If they leak take them back right away, they will complain that they are muddy, but answer I didnt know they leaked until I got in the water. This happened to a friend last year and he went thru 3 pair until he got a waterproof pair. (He never got soaked, it was just pin-holes at a seam.)
But as I said, get out in the Grand away from all the shore fishing. Float fish some minnows or worms and I think your success will improve greatly, it works for me.
I'll send you a PM next time we are headed out that way and maybe we can meet up and share some knowledge.
As for tomorrow I think we are headed to a place I used to catch Specks, it's going to be a hit and miss proposition.

Alfie.
