Salmon still biting once in the river?

So my friends and I decided to try something new. We normally cast spoons at the river mouth but decided to hunt for salmon in the river. We went to one of the local tribs and after doing a bit a searching managed to find a nice deep secluded pool where 6+ salmon were resting. During the time we were there we didn't see another soul since the pool was only accessible if you had waders. We offered them roe, worms, trout worms, spoons, inline spinners and cranks. Not a single bite so I was wondering if anyone ever caught a salmon in the river before and what was it caught on?

Offer them flies specially egg sucking leech patterns, black flies under a float. I have also done well using single eggs on a number 8 hook. Jigs under a float are preety good also.

If you can see them, chances are they have already seen you.

Single eggs are deadly. The salmon think they are loose spawn and try and clear them away

Flies was one thing I was thinking. I tried placing a few eggs on a hook but never tried a single egg. Thanks for the tips I'll give them a try and report back.

i've caught quite a few of them on floating rapalas.

Salmon DO NOT eat once they enter the river system there digestive system shrink's to make room for the spawn to develop.

Salmon will catch free floating roe to place back on the bottom & will hit rapala type lures out of aggression rather than a feeding instinct.

Thats what I think anyways.

True, but if you pass a fly over them many times to piss them off they will strike.
I have witnessed salmon circling my offerings before taking it, specially single eggs.

From my experience, Salmon in the river dont hit too often, Like someone said they are no longer feeding. Most of the time river salmon are snagged, Hence why alot of people use marshmellows/earplugs, to keep their line floating. Salmon swim with their mouth open and the line gets caught in the side of their mouth and as you go to set the hook you pull the hook right into the side of their mouth. It looks like a legit hit, but in acuality you snagged the fish.

Ive often been fishing this way and went to set a hook and the salmon jumps 10 feet in front of me rather then where my hook is as it has swam into my line.
