I'm going to be delving into the world of braided line and wanted to know what brands were trusted by everyone out there. The choices are overwhelming! I was leaning toward Spiderwire Flurobriad because of its sinkability. My spinning reel is rated at .25mm minimum, so that's what I'll be using (or as close as I can get). I'm looking for a good balance between strength and sensitivity - I'll be using it in the weeds and also trolling with it. Salmon are coming!

Also, I heard that braids can "cut into" spinning spools. Is there a way to avoid that other than using a backing?

PRACTICE, PRACTICE .... and then PRACTICE even more: TYING your Knots!

Braid can be the most FRUSTRATING LINE in the UNIVERSE, if you do not tie it properly.

lol ... based on my own experience (Bad knot tying)
Many people enjoy and swear by it.

It is the slippage of the Knots ... (At least in my case) that Keeps me "wary" of using it.
I'm still a 99% mono man.

Fireline Crystal or spiderwire invisibraid...

As for knots... i have never had an issue with a palomar knot?
Shouldnt be that big of an issue.

Its likely a good idea to tip your braid with a couple feet of fluoro leader depending on what you're fishing for and water clarity...
Ive never heard of braid cutting into a spool, but it can slip around on your spool when its dry.

To avoid that slipping, spool on (or leave on) about 50yds of mono and then attach your braid (blood knot) to the mono and spool away!

There isnt a lot of difference in sensitivity in different makes of braid, theyre all exceptional. No stretch = Perfect sensitivity transfer.

Dont be scared of braid.

Good advice!

Well said

I used to only use Power Pro but have recently gotten into the Suffix line that is more round which I now prefer. Both are good braids, I saw a new Power Pro braid that is more like the suffix line that I like and is probably better as well but it was quite expensive.

Thanks Float! I do have some 15lb fluro on the reel, I'll just take it down and tie on the braid. I was already planning to use the fluro as a leader - I know braid is highly visible. I'll take a look at all the brands you guys suggested. Thanks!

Just picked up the new powerpro braid I was talking about today. Its called superslick and it feels great. The local fishing store had it in bulk for the same price as the old stuff so I figured it was a good opportunity to test it out.

Cool! Let me know how it works out!
