Hey guys I was pretty successful fishing for walleye in the spring but now that summer is here im struggling. What do you recommend should I be fishing in deep water with a crank? Should I fish at night when the shores are cooler?

Caught two yesterday. 8 FOW, tons of weeds, worms and bucktail jigs.

Not much of a walleye angler here so I cant offer much help.  We got into a couple last weekend on jigs tipped with GULP minnows on a weed line which had a drop off that went from 10 - 20 feet.  Once the temperatures start dropping and Fall nears, they come to the shallows right at sundown - used to fish them like this with my father.

Thanks, im going to try the weeds at sundown this weekend. Im gonna try my Gulp shads and hope to land a 5er.

I fish the grand for them. I like the fall there cause the pigs come in from erie and they're fattening up. My best setup is tying 6 or 8 lb fluro to my mainline with a 2 ft leader. Then I tie on a 1/2 or 3/4 oz jighead and put a mister twister on it. My favourite colour is yellow btw. I attach my jighead to my leader with a clinch knot so that when I get snagged on the bottom I only loose my jighead, and not my leader. Anyway summer is the worst time to fish rivers for eyes, summer is the best time to fish lakes for eyes though IMHO.

A friend of mine that catch's his limit or close to it everytime he goes out use's either the Gulp Leech's or Real Worm's on a single hook worm harness,I'm not sure what size hook he use's but it's one size bigger then what comes with a Welleye Crawler Hauler from Northland Tackle that can found at Crappy Tire. 

 

He's fishing at Kincardine at the Hydro Plant,he told me and my friend to use one size larger hook as I said above and to buy 2 harness's and use all the beads from both harness's on one harness with about 3 feet of line to make up the harness and a 3/4oz slip sinker and to use a swivel on the line coming off the Rod and to put the slip sinker above the swivel.

 

He said right now the Walleye are not in shoot's they are just in front of them in about 36 to 40 feet of water,he also said to flatline with about 75 to 100 feet of line behind the boat.

I always find it funny that people have to go deep to find walleye this time of year. I usually fish weed flats jerk baiting for walleye. Once i've located the aggressive ones. I'll slow down the fishing with ripping buck tails tipped with a gulp minnow. If you don't find them in the weeds, work the edges with a crank bait. If you can get a bait that will ride just above the weeds ticking it. I think you'll have luck. Hope this helps

I'll slow down the fishing with ripping buck tails tipped with a gulp minnow. If you don't find them in the weeds, work the edges with a crank bait. If you can get a bait that will ride just above the weeds ticking it. I think you'll have luck. Hope this helps
