I'm considering getting one of these rods, in either the 11'6'' ML or the 13' ML. I normally fish small to medium sized tribs for steelhead, and occasionally Chinook. Rod will be paired with a Raven SST-2. Any opinions on the rod, which model to get, or a better rod at that price point would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

cant go wrong with the r-type bud it got a nice feel to it and the cut away handle style is nice and comfy. but 13' might be a bit large if you sticking to smaller tribs.

i fish areas that are no wider then 30 feet usually and i find an 11'6 to be perfect for that
ive only been to 2 locations where i was really wishing i had a longer rod and i only hit those spots maybe 1-2 times a year, so not really worth it.

For tight spots the 11 is great but if I were you I'd go for the 13, incase you do decide to venture out onto some bigger water. However a 13 is tough on tiny trickles with heavy cover over top.

A 13' rod has yet to be a problem for me and I fish everything from puddles to the Niagra with it, however if you feel more comfortable with one in your hand over the other then that is the rod you should be fishing. At the end of the day it won't be me out there fishing your rod. The rtype is a nice rod with a lot of reserve power, you should have no problem with those bruiser chinooks; Im looking forward to adding both 11'6 and 13 to my arsenal.

I have fished both rods once now, I have to say I do like the feel and there is definately some power in both. I would definitely add the 11'6 to your list of rods for lure/drift fishing.

I have the 13' and love it. I used it primarily for chinooks since I didn't have to worry about abusing it with the lower price point. It is currently out for warranty because I fell of the top of a 6' ladder onto it but I cant wait to get it back. The second half of the rod has some serious backbone.
