tossing iron

Coming to that time of year again.
Trout opener.
Tis the season for giant trebles .
Professional liners.
And of course roe harvest.
Sickening what people do for a fish and too
a fish.
Cost me a pair of waders one year.
Guy on opposite side of pool snagged one and fish headed to my side of pool.
Went between my legs and the oversize treble caught my waders.
He still refused to cut his line.
I always carry scissors and immediately cut his line.
And yes resulted in a confrontation and I punched him out.
I fish for the solitude and enjoyment of just being outdoors.
But everyone has their limits. Lol

Liners.
No skill necessary.
Anyone that can control their drift and depth are successful.
We all know trout face the current and mouth all incoming particles.
Waters clear simply watch them inhale and set the hook. Law wise it's hooked in the mouth and nothing MNR can do about it.
Some people just have no conscience.

I could never be a liner, even if I wanted to. Even with my prescription sunglasses on I can never see my business end line anyway. Sucks having bad eyes...lol

During the opener, protect yourself at all times. I fish for steel all year round when I don't go after pike...I practically just guide some friends who want to go trout fishing during openers because they like site fishing 3 ft deep water. lol. It gets ugly during the opener but other than that. it is fun watching kids and family fish for trout.

Personally when a pool is occupied with spoon and Muskie spinner chuckers , I just keep on going to the next pool. Some times it's not even worth it .

I like exploring the rivers on opener, if you walk far enough, you can escape the crowds. I've never seen snaggers on opener, but I see shoulder to shoulder areas, and people sight fishing the shallow spawning areas. A couple days after opener is when I like to head out.

Normal people usually rush to book their summer vacations on Jan 1st. I book Mon. Tues. and Wed after trout opener every year, and always get approved. Nothing wrong with that.

During openers, I like bringing my kids to Huck Finn fishing day in Durham early morning stock pond fishing...free stuff and kids get to participate. I can go for steelhead any other day. plus pike season closes in the same month so i'd rather go for some pre spawn fat pike first...

Go out in crowds, bring friends who can spectate. People tend to leave you and your pools alone....

I know this is from a year ago, but damn tough read.

Yep watching the water levels spike now, should be interesting. The work week looks good, hopefully I can get out.
