New to OFF, looking to learn more about my area mostly the Nith

You probably should start a new post in the "fishing gear and talk" section. I don't think many people, outside of those who fish the ninth river, will see it in this thread.

    Midland area.

Hey, Alfie... There's some all right bass in little late. A few pike, but I wouldn't target the pike. I have heard the lake used to be good for pike, but got fished out.

New to OFF, looking to learn more about my area mostly the Nith

the thames reservoir near woodstock is a good place to go if you have a canoe. i went icefishing for pike this year at the quarry in innerkip. it's quite deep and i vowed to head back once the warmer weather set in...

    Private land?

Canadian public right of navigation is not written anywhere – it is a right that has developed over time through Common Law. If the waters are navigable, then the public has the right to navigate. Gaining approval to restrict the public's right to navigate can only be done a few ways...

    Private land?

The navigable waters act has been seriously diluted by the harper government. A river, lake or creek no longer is considered applicable by default, but rather by official designation. See link...

so i almost caught a seagull today...

i hooked a gull once pier fishing at bronte. it was horrible. i brought it in and removed the rapala from it's mouth. in future, i think i'd just cut the line before offering resistance so the bird could dislodge the lure.

replacing treble hooks with single hooks

there is debate over "landing there is debate over landing ratios with single hooks. although the hookup percentage is supposed to be lower (i haven't seen that yet in my little experiment,) the landing ratios are supposed to be higher with a single secure point of hookup (which i haven't...

    The Joy of Not Fishing

the six-pack rings are a total pet peeve of mine. something so easy to pocket and so lethal to area rodents and fowl. there is NO rationalization for this and offenders need to have their licence plates recorded and the rings forced into their gas tanks the next time they are parked at a site...

    Fish in the 416

i think conservation areas, provincial and national parks the "paid" ones, are a given when it comes to being able to mention names. it keeps the sport thriving, helps with conservation budgets and concentrates people in a region that is more geared to handle an influx of people... ie...

replacing treble hooks with single hooks

well, here's my take. thanks everyone for their input. I get less success ratios with surface lures using single hooks, but with spinners, crankbaits, rapalas and buzzbaits , it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference. i haven't been using spoons as of late, so the jury is still out on...
