    Fly Tying Kit

the vices in those kit are cheap, and usually break really quick. buy a decent one. materials are relatively cheap figure out 5 flies you want to tie, chances are, they share the same materials. i bought a kit when i first started, i still have half the materials left 3 years later.

    Your best brain cramp moment

was able to escape for a couple of hours one day, grabbed my fly rod and left. got to the creek, got suited up, the top half of the rod didn't match the bottom half..... top half was for a spinning rod and didn't match. was a long ride home.....

    Starting Out Needs

you'll want a reel with a good drag on it, but you don't need to spend more than $100 for the reel would highly recommend an echo ion reel.

I will say this, the top end gear from simms are NOT made for the average fisherman, they are made with fishing guides in mind, guys who spend everyday on the river. Thats what the G stands for in the name, Guide Series

    Salmon/Steelhead Setups.

for salmon i would go anywhere from 6lb to 10lb leaders. for hooks, this is where bass guys go wtf cause its its not a 1/0 size. size 6 -10 should be fine, depends whether you'r tossing skein chunks, roe bags, or worms. and if you decide you'd like to go trout, hooks 8-14 are the norm.

    Salmon/Steelhead Setups.

you don't need to spend the money on a centre pin reel right off the bat, put it towards a good rod, a spinning reel will do just as well, especially if you have one laying around the house. would go for a 10ft float rod. and if you don't want to break the bank, but want good bang for the buck...

    Snagged Fish

fact is, you really won't know until you set the hook, unless you actually see the take. if its just holding, and you don't feel headshakes, chances are high its fouled, if you feel the rod bouncing on regular intervals, its a tail hook and your only chance is to break off lol when you set the...

    Old oshawa harbour

fishing on the east side will get you kicked out eventually, you used to be able to park right next to the creek entrance and walk across a bridge to get on the rocks, but not anymore. there is a way in. just follow the path :)
