    No luck in West Tribs

Sadly, Lake Ontario is not the only body of water from which one should be weary about consuming fish. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2013/08/29/fukushima-fishery-destroyed.html

Salmon in the west tribs yet?

Welcome to OFF steelheadhunter! Just to let you know, we ask that members refrain from naming specific rivers. In the future, please refer to Bronte as a "west trib". So far, it seems that guys are having more luck on the "east tribs". :)

    storm ponds

Congrats! To find other storm ponds that hold fish, look for storm ponds on google earth that are connected/adjacent to tributaries/river systems. In my experience, all of the storm ponds that had fish populations were indeed connected to larger river systems. As for legality, I've never...

Braid with leader for pier salmon?

When I do use flouro leader to braid for other types of fishing (typically not for salmon), I use this knot, but I don't do the 24 wraps like the guy in video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIBT7WVqocY

Casting for distance: mono or braid?

6lb Trilene XL! (Just for fun) You can launch a cleo a country mile using a 10'6" rod and 6lb XL... Now, mind you, you'll lose most of your fish... I know, I've tried it. It was definitely a fun experiment, but not one I would partake in again if I wanted to actually land a bunch of kings! But...

are salmon within casting distance yet?

There are no scientific publications (that I'm aware of) that definitively address this question. However, it has been my observation that local temps early in the season affect chinook staging. So I would say that you should focus on the temps where you are fishing. In this case, just a bit...

are salmon within casting distance yet?

I would look for anything under 60 degrees F surface temp... The lower the better as a rule of thumb.

are salmon within casting distance yet?

My earliest salmon from a pier was July 13th, many years ago. I haven't been out yet this year, but when I lived in Port Credit back in my University days, I can tell you that every year by this time there were salmon at the mouth at night.

    Four mile lake, Coboconk

If you see them hanging around near the dock, I would try senkos, wacky rigged, no weight.

I would give it a shot and report back. I'm very curious myself!

    Grenadier Pond fish dying.

Unlikely, in my opinion. I think it would require way more rat poison (than the "packet" mentioned in the article) to cause a fish die-off of this magnitude. I could be wrong.

Exploring pays off... BIG TIME! *pictures*

It goes to show that you never know what you will find... There are lots of little gems like this small pond that are often overlooked. The most bass I've ever caught in one day have come from ponds just like these -- ponds that you never thought would have anything in them worth fishing for. In...

good resources to read about rainbow trout/steelhead

I would recommend Jim Butler's book: "Steelhead Float Fishing: Modern Techniques & Methods". (specific to Ontario tribs) Copies may be difficult to find, at least it was for me a few years ago when I bought mine.
