    Fishing Journals

Anybody keep fishing journals? What kind of information do you record? I started one last summer to track trends like bite vs. weather, time of day, etc. Anybody go as far as building a spreadsheet?

    Anyone use a bandana/buff/sungaiter?

Had this problem last year. Collared shirt made of light cotton, with long sleeves that can be rolled up. Bandana, a brimmed hat (Tilley with the snaps) and a pair of blue jeans. Not too hot when on the water.

    Vest vs Hip-pack

Depends how you like to roll. If you wade, a cheap light cotton vest is a good way to go. Dropped $15 at BPS for mine. No frills. Just pockets with zippers. The other way to go,particularly if you walk along the banks and do some shallow crossing in hip/boots, a hip-pack is good too. This...

    WINTER PIKE

^ Not bad at all! The weather (high atmospheric pressure, etc) can play into it too. Some days they agressive enough to hit on short pauses, in some weather fronts, you could be counting to thirty or 45 for your pauses.

    WINTER PIKE

They are going to be hiding in deep spots with pockets of dying vegetation. As mentioned above, slow presentations like husky jerks. A canadian/dardevle spoon on a slow retrieve just over top of the deep veg can work. Colours to match the conditions: sunny days: red/white striped nickelback and...

Adding cleats to felt Sole wader boots?

I use cleated rubber soles with metal studs screwed into them. Good grip on slippery bottoms and added traction when hiking rugged terrain. Good all year round. Felt soles are blamed for transfering "rocksnot" from stream to stream.

    Want to fish the Niagara!

The Niagara is a very challenging stretch, but is some very nice scenary no matter which spot you choose. Fishing in the shadow of the bluffs, the emerald water and raging current is an experience that keeps me coming back. I think you will enjoy it. A couple pieces of advice: be prepared to...

    Yarn/Yarnies/Yarnballs

Either yarn is not that big with OFF steelheaders, or I'm prying into baits people just don't like to share ;) After some research, answer is (according to the Fishing w/ JD Blog and Steelheaders.net) match corkie/spin and glow and yarn with the size of the hook, but generally start out making...

    Yarn/Yarnies/Yarnballs

Putting it out there to yarn drifters: What size yarnies are you drifting for what conditions? Will the work under a float? Also, do you use them with beads/corkies for BBing deep fast stuff like the whirlpool? Thanks!

How is West Trib Chrome Fishing?

Second that on the boots. A few of them between the QEW and 407. Browns are in for sure. No sign of chrome, but it was pretty busy on the stream so chances are they could have been undercover. Cold, grey and snowing and the creek is very low and clear.

    Drop shotting for bows

For better bite detection, try attaching a slinky/pencil lead (with tubing) to a small snap swivle, onto your mainline. Then a small glass bead as a bearing/stopper. Then a small barrel swivel, leader. It adds more sensitivity to your main line so you can tell the difference between the tap of...
