Have you ever tried that technique as a variation on bottom bouncing. G. Bristow who, I think it's fair to say, is an expert on fishing recommends it on this thread:,

I googled it and came up with a lot of different opinions but mostly negative. GB mentions using it with a streamer. It was my intention to try it with roe bags and possibly worm---pink or real.

but, yes, streamers are very common and effective for BB. Thats what I hear anyway. Never catch me with a BB rig thats for sure

Your cutting yourself off at the knees with that perspective. I like to float fish, but there are circumstances where I cut off the float rig and get back to my roots because it' can be very effective. Undoubtedly you assume it's a snaggers tool because in the last 15 years it's very rare to see someone actually bottom bouncing other than when someone is trying to snag salmon. That's a shame!

It actually takes more skill to bottom bounce. Float fishing is the great equalizer.

I will BB from time to time with golf ball bags in water over 15' when its heavily stained.

For better bite detection, try attaching a slinky/pencil lead (with tubing) to a small snap swivle, onto your mainline. Then a small glass bead as a bearing/stopper. Then a small barrel swivel, leader. It adds more sensitivity to your main line so you can tell the difference between the tap of a rock and the tap of a small bite. When your drift is done, you will stop feeling the bottom. Otherwise your bait will keep drifting a country mile as the mainline continues to slide through the eye of your sinker's snap swivel

This is the setup that works for me. A lot of guys do well with the three-way swivels and dropper lines.

But try a float where you can. Works best in the smaller water. Float goes down, tip goes up!
