I caught this 80 pounder in Thailand last month. Giant Mekong Catfish. Biggest fish I ever caught. It took over 30 minutes to land it. My arms were shaking when I was done.

Nice setup. I've seen the tripods in use on YouTube videos. I especially liked this one from Hamilton. Close to my house.

So with just 1.6oz difference in weight ..... and after another long chat with the great guys at Bill's Bait and Tackle ..... explaining my situation in depth .... the winner is ..... Stradic 4000. If I find it way too much for fishing here, It'll be my winter reel for my trips overseas.

Never mind it's way to big. I stopped in a shop to see it. Might be looking at the Stradic now.

I want to get a better reel. I have been using an ugly stick rod and reel combo. It has served me well but I recently had a chance to use a more expensive reel lent to me by a friend and it was much better. I usually fish for bass and pike from shore but may want to try some carp fishing this...

To the left of the boat launch, it runs along the rail lands all the way up to the carp barrier at Cootes Paradise.

I fish with worms and leeches down there regularly and I catch some nice bass and perch. Try taking a walk up the path on the left of the boat launch. further up the better. Lots of carp in the back right Macassa Bay. You can see that on google maps. I don't fish carp but I see tons of them...
