2-Piece Casting Rod

I tried out some baitcasters last season and would like to add one to my arsenal this season. I am looking on BPS and I am finding a lot of affordable casting rods with great reviews. The problem is that I would like something around 7'0 and I would need it to be a 2-piece for transportation purposes.

On BPS I notice that there are a lot of decent looking rods for around $40-$60 but they are all 1-piece.

I found a few reviews on another site recommending the Abu Garcia Vengence 2-Piece but when I looking on their website I found a lot of reviews stating that the eyelets were breaking and the rods were snapping. I don't want any of that happening.

I have also taken a look at the Abu Garcia Veritas 2-piece. 6'9" MH with fast action. Looks like my best bet so far but at $99 it is a little bit higher than I'd like to go.

If anyone has any words of wisdom I would be very grateful.

Looks like a nice rod but at $129 it is even further out of my price range than the Veritas.

If you can find a decent one grab it. I have an old Shakespeare 2 piece casting rod that I got about 20 years ago, and every time a guide breaks or an insert falls out, I rebuild it. It was cheap, it works great and while definitely not modern, it's perfect for canoe trips or ATV rides into the back lake near my hunt camp! 2 piece casting rods are tough to find for reasonable money, but well worth it!

How are you transporting your rod? I can understand you need to break it down if you are taking transit or cycling.

If it is a compact car issue, I can attest through personal experience with a Civic, was able to stuff a 7' rod in the passenger compartment. Two ways: fold down the rear bench and slide it through the trunk up between the front seats with plenty of room from the console. Second way is to just sling it diagonally from the front passenger seat to the rear-driver-side passenger seat.

Otherwise any of those two-pieces you specced should serve you well. One piece is better if you plan on some heavy-duty pitching and flipping… if you can make it work for your transportation needs that is… The one pieces have better backbones so the tips are less prone to breaking.

I know that I could fit a 7' rod into a compact, also cruising around in a civic. I'd really prefer a 2 piece though because I do take my gear on transit from time to time. I also like to take my gear down to the states when i fly.

Go with a 6'6 1 piece if your worried about room, Have you seen the commericials for lunkerville. Mike walks around in NYC with 1 piece rods!

For the price you cant go wrong with a veritas. 78 bucks, starting tomorrow at sail -20% on rods. Be tough to find a better deal than that

Haven't seen the commercials for lunkerville. I know that I could probably make do with a 1-piece but I am looking for a 2-piece simply for convenience and ease of travel. I will get around to getting a really nice 1-piece eventually.

I'd go for a 6'6 but I already have 2 6' 6 spinning set ups. Wanted to get a longer baitcaster for a little more distance and strength.

Thanks for the heads up on the Veritas at Sail. I didn't see that before. Do you hace any more info on the 20% off sale? How long will that last for.

Hopefully I can make my way out this weekend.

Like I said the quantum smoke 2 peice with nano guides extra sensitive ya it's 120 but you get the best of both worlds the sensitivity of a 1 peice practicality of a 2 peice I don't know anything on their sale though

Alright. I will take a look. They don't offer it at SAIL though. I have only seen it at BPS so far.

I'll go check out SAIL on the weekend. Their sale lasts until Sunday.

Hopefully they have some stock and I'll most likely be going with the 2-piece Veritas. 6'9 MH with Fast action.

I will let you guys know what I find.

How much did you get it for at the Sportsmen show? Were the deals any god?

I was there as well but I wasn't really considering picking up a new rod at the time. I also didn't do my research beforehand. There was so much stuff to look at and I was a little overwhelmed.

Will do, I'll be using the 2 piece mostly when I'm cycling and portaging so it will get the full treatment lol. I also got the Okuma Calera winch, 6:6:1 ratio, the reel/rod combo was $139 taxes in so not too hard on the wallet.

Looking to get a 1 piece 7 footer to throw in the van when I'm going cottaging.
